Zero Tolerance 0801S110V Limited Run

Mine has been floating in the abyss that is USPS since the 29th. ETA was 1/31 and I'm starting to get antsy after not seeing it in my mailbox today.

What does everyone think about this knife vs the 0562CF? I'm trying to decide between the two.

Well, let's see. The 562 is cheaper by a tad bit, it's more of a slicer, carbon fiber handle, M390 steel finger grooves in the handle, good flipper
The 0801 is all titanium, S110V steel, good flipper, not really a slicer, it has S110V steel, feels good in hand. That is a tough choice. I wouldn't want to be you. Whichever you decide on, it's the right choice.

I think y'all are right. Get the 0801S110V before it runs out, and then pick up a 0562CF when the availability returns to normal!

Better decide on the 0801 soon, because once it's gone, it's gone. The 0562CF will become available again in the future, it's not a limited.

Got mine today from KSF. Box in good shape, just a crease on one side. (RevDevil, you can have my box if you want it, just pm me.)

Serial Number 293. EXTREMELY strong detent, but when you do overcome it the blade flies out like it has spring assist. I prefer the weaker detent on my 0560s.

Blade centered. No blade play. Blade edge is ground evenly at 20 dps. Good point. 0.0375 inches behind the edge (too thick). Pretty sharp (soon to be much sharper).

Probably the ugliest knife I own, but it looks like a solidly built, high-quality tool. Great feel in the hand. About 50 percent lockup.

S110V is one of my favorite steels, so I'm hoping to like this knife a lot. My biggest beef is the typical ZT blade geometry, which is overly thick with no distal taper until the very end. Doesn't anyone at ZT use a knife for detail work? Acute blade geometry is what makes me love my equally ugly Sebenza.

Excellent fit and finish and extremely well made, like every ZT I've had.

I've never seen a detent hole like this. Is that what they are supposed to look like? It has a larger shallow hole then a smaller hole that goes all the way through.

I have seen one other ZT that has an odd offset-countersink like that -

I am not sure if it was intended or a mistake, but it did not seem to impact the operation of the knife.

It does not look the best though, luckily it is not very obvious.

Thanks. Did you get one of these 0801S110V models? Can anyone else confirm if theirs has this or not?

A few models have had it. I'm safely assuming it's to make a stronger detent. Either way, I don't take issue with that change if the knife performs better.

Hole goes all the way through on mine. It could have also been done as other companies do for steel identification purposes. When you have a few thousands blanks that are all laying on a table, it might be hard to tell which steel is which otherwise.

But does it make the knife perform better or does it possibly wear the detent down faster?

Maybe the detent ball is contacting the edge of both holes therefore wearing the ball down twice as fast. Maybe it's a machining flaw and the edge isn't radiused like it's supposed to be. I really don't know but if that's not how the detent hole is supposed to be maybe there will be some problem down the road that I cant think of now.

Or you could just cut something with it...? Seriously though, I get it. You want your knife to be new and awesome and this perceived "problem" is raining on the parade. I think you have a couple options here.

First is you could just use it and if it ever becomes a problem which I highly doubt it ever will, ZT/KAI will take care of you.

Secondly you could send it back to the retailer and ask for a different unit or a refund and move on.

No point thinking "what if" the whole way. I hope this helps you and you get the resolve you are looking for.

Cheers,

-Justin
