The main character carried a side-by-side 12 ga. Probably the worst choice you could possibly make for an anti-zombie weapon, with bulky ammo, slow reloads, heavy recoil, and limited standoff distance and accuracy. Personally, my choice would always be to go with a .22LR for the walking dead. Zombies are not people, you aren't going to stop them with center-of-mass hits. You need headshots. And you need to be able to carry a LOT of ammo. .22 ammo is the smallest and lightest you are going to find, and the easiest to locate in large quantities. I think a Ruger 10/22 with the biggest magazines you can find, and a red-dot scope is just the ticket for a longarm. Don't forget plenty of cleaning gear! For a sidearm, you want a Smith & Wesson revolver in .22. And for a knife, you want a Busse NMFBM.
