This is not gonna end well is it.

There is gonna be a lot of butt hurt.

Yes it's damned if you do, damned if you don't... However they release it, there will be those who are going to be disappointed.

Couple things:
1) Making plenty (like the 0560CBCF) and perhaps adding additional runs with slight variations (like the Tilt) should help make as many CUSTOMERS as happy as possible. Some will argue that making plenty tones down the spirit of "LE". Well if you have a problem with it, you are either a flipper or one selfish MFer. Or both. Let us all eat.

2) Selling direct is not perfect either but it eliminates a lot of the games such as buddy "hookups", unreasonable first sale mark ups, dealers flipping on Ebay, dealers preordering without a guarantee, jumping through hoops and begging dealers on the phone, days to weeks of scouring leads and clues and other bullshit.

3) Yeah, I've missed out on Kershawguys preorders, one example is the 801CF... I emailed him same day of BLADE and I had to email him after it was released and was told that "oops sorry I sold them all already". Couple weeks after that he emailed me that he had one for $450 (or $550? don't recall exact). Like uhh ok. And this is MY GOTO dealer...It's like pulling teeth.

4) I refuse to pay flippers for a LE days after release. I would suggest we all do this but that's not gonna happen.

I don't know - If I had customers who bought lots of expensive knives from me, I'd be inclined to treat them favorably too. There simply is no way to distribute this kind of product that's going to make everyone happy. If ZT sells them all directly, they cut out their dealers. If they sell them through their dealers, some customers are going to get preferential treatment. There's just no way to make everyone happy.

very true on both

Seeing what? Speculation ?

hey if he wants to come in here and quiet anyone speculating, he is more than welcome to. Until then, its unfortunately what it looks like. I've bought from him numerous times without a hitch.

I did get an email back from GPknives and they aren't giving anything up haha.... everyone is waiting for the email with the dealers list

Regarding your point, IMO that's cutting it close but sure it makes sense from the dealers' perspective.

Problem is, preferential treatment is just the tip of the iceberg...This is not just coming from me but from prior discussions here on BF with Thomas present. A dealer getting caught flipping on Ebay... The guy with the killer connect who scored SIX 801CF's... Dealers preordering hudreds of LE's that they weren't supposed to... Selling waaay above MSRP (within their right but not what ZT intends)...etc etc etc etc.

yup and that's why they wanted to try and do it directly from them, but upset dealers.... upset customers... and not to mention the finger straight at them. Smart to put them back out to dealers with a strict leash attached

Quiet what? We don't even know of he's getting any so why would he have to defend himself?

In the past, he kept a preorder list just like everyone else. I was fortunate enough to get my 0600, 0777 and 0801cf. Dave doesn't know me from Adam, I just contacted him the second I knew about them (which used to be the first look threads that came before shot/blade).

So don't apply his past policies (which is how everyone did it) to a knife he might even not get with a whole new set of rules in place.

Its not like Dave had a group of 10-15 people who he gave first dibs to. It was always FCFS.

Oh im not calling him out on this knife lol, please don't take it as such. I'm merely speaking of past knives that I have seen shown as "all spoken for", could have very easily been pre order lists. I do think in the future ZT/Kai is going to be much more strict about how they handle the release of LE and what dealers do. Dave has always been a nice person when I have dealt with him.

Just to add, Dave's a one man show and I observe that the way he did preorders back then must have been a headache to keep track of.

While I gave an example of how I dubiously missed out from a Dave preorder, it wasn't a slight on him but a larger point I'm conveying that this whole process of acquiring these (knives we anticipate for up to or over a year) is...what's the word....or words.

By the same token, Dave has come through for me on LE's. Regarding some preferential treatment though who knows which dealers actually do it.

you just put into words what I tried to in my previous post. Thank you lol

I agree

Its not like he gets in dozens of knives. How long do you think it takes a dealer who primarily deals in KAI knives, who is best knows for dealing in KAI knives, to get 6-12 emails on a KAI LE?

People should like this method more because it doesn't reward people with primary knowledge everyone has known for a week so no one can say, hey I just heard about this knife 2 days after blade/shot/first looks and now I can't find any open preorders.

On Facebook some guys are saying that ZT is hinting at a major announcement at 5:30 Pacific/8:30 Eastern. So if it's the list, it'll be a few more hours yet.

Do they usually release limited editions at midnight? Afternoon? Morning? I dont see a big market for these being flipped since you can get an eklipse for what a few hundred more? The secondary market price for a 0392 will probably be around the same as an eklipse at secondary market price.

There's two on eBay right now for $1500.00 if you don't want to wait (or you're high on crack....).

I got mine today and it is a nice knife, will be a good user.

I certainly don't know more than anyone else, but I have a guess. My guess is that KAI is putting some strict conditions on how and when these will be sold. I expect that all will be available at the same time and at the same price. In other words, it will mimic a direct sale by KAI, only through its selected dealers. We'll see soon enough.

I hope KAI is hot on the trail of how someone got two early.
