Just out of curiousity lost cosmonaut, did zt take a similar approach on 0392 of making the blade stops only function as blade stops? Sorry if this has been discussed previously.

Give it the 0560CF S110v treatment. Just enough was made that everyone who wanted one (or even two) got it at retail prices. Flippers were left scratching their heads.

The big difference with the 0560cbcf and some variations we've seen on the 0801 is that many people already had the design but without the "limited" features so it probably reduced demand significantly. Flippers never really had a secondary market worth bothering with.

The 0777, 0888, 0454, and now 0392 are the perfect storm with close to a years worth of marketing based anticipation built up. Non-collectors are hoping to get the design at normal prices and ZT collectors paying huge prices to get them creates a market where flippers know they can double their money on every one they can get. Point all that at a small buying event that everyone has significant advanced notice of and it's not surprising there are issues.

Which is why the 0452 is so nice to see, giving the masses the general design of the 0454 but in production numbers. The same is true for the 0801 s110v coming out under the radar, another great idea that never let flippers get out of the starting block.

Just speculating, but I think we'll see them being sold comparable to Eklipse prices. I'd hope anyways. The Eklipse is pretty readily available, but previous LE's like the 0777, 0454, 0600, and 0888 were pretty exclusive designs.

The 0777 is a very unique design made only available through ZT, and the 0454, 0600, and 0888 were all designed by makers that produce high-demand knives that aren't readily available on the first hand or even second-hand market.

Personally, I'd rather buy an Eklipse if I were looking at paying $400+ for a second-hand 0392. However, some collectors might not feel that way.

Yes, they are much lower profile now like on the 0562 and rounded so they only function as blade stops. There's also a backstop for the blade inside the handle - that blade isn't going anywhere.

I can still see the 0392 commanding a little bit over the Eklipse because its all Ti and has a more traditional blade profile. The Eklipse seems to be happy around $600, I would not be shocked to see the 0392 settle in at $700-800 after the initial hype.

The secondary prices on the 0600 never got insane considering they were almost $400 new. The 0801CF hasn't been crazy.

The prices on the 0454 and 0777m390 are a little up there but you can find them for $600ish.

The only ones that are stupidly expensive are the original 0777s and the 0888s.

It's hard to say, with the eklipse selling pretty easy somewhere in the $550-650 range, and some up in the $750 range you'd think they wouldn't go much more than that. However, most of the Eklipse's are G10 and S35vn and it's not hard finding one, so with the 0392 you get better edge holding steel and full Ti handles two things that people will and do pay more for and unknown availability down the road. If they sell for $375 at dealers, double would be $750, they might not make it that high, but it would not surprise me if they go well north of $500 and sell easily.

I never did score an Original Damascus ZT0777. I was lucky in fact to get an M390 version!

It's hard to say what the flip value on these knives will be tomorrow, next year, further.

Luckily for me, I don't care how much my kids get for them in my estate sale - that's their problem.

I'll just try to scuff 'em all up over the next 20 + years if I am that lucky.

In my humble opinion, the 0392 is much better than the base Eklipse and more comparable with the custom Eklipse.

I like the way you think!

Here is a photo comparison between the 0392 and the 0454 that got brought up yesterday. After having a few hours to fondle them I stand by my previous perception that the the 0392 is as smooth as any of the LE ZTs that came before it and my production Hinderers. The 0454 is every bit as smooth but just has an entirely different feel. I also love my 0801cf which again is wonderful but just so different than a Hinderer style or 0454 ... but isn't this what makes knives so cool?!

Dang. The one on the auction site sold for $1500...

WOW! I noticed it was $1500 or make make offer last night but it looks like it was recorded as sold at 1500 ... I'm with Cypriot Dang! Mine is now for sale for the bargain price of 1499 ! LOL

I have a feeling that ZT dealers participating in this sale of the 0392 will be inundated with calls, emails, etc. shortly after the ZT announcement of which dealers on Tuesday. Mass hysteria! :D

I'll be right there with you, RZ. Any tips, that you would like to impart with the community? ;)

I'm clueless right now. I like my chances less than either of the previous methods ZT sold the LE:

  • Many dealers got quite a few (except for 0777, 0888, 0888MAX & 0888M390)
  • Direct (ZT 0454 & Kershaw 4040 -- even with the Shopatron fiascos)
  • A few select dealers unannounced (0801S110V)

However, we shall see how it all pans out...

Lottery won't do me much good. Haven't won a single one from various like TAD and Southard.
