I got mine today!! I can honestly say this is my favorite knife so far. It feels like forever I have been lusting after a 0777, the 0454 might have filled that void. First off the packaging is epic! The last LE I got (or should I say the first) was a 0801BRWCF. That knife came just like every other regular ZT. The 0454 however, comes in an awesome magnetic lidded display box that is lined with foam and the knife is wrapped in a pouch lined with some sort of soft fur similar to my gf's slippers. Then I got to fondle it, wow, it is an amazing flipper! It is so smooth that it falls closed under its own weight. The carbon fiber is flawless on both sides. The titanium back spacer and pocket clip are perfection. This knife is on par or nicer that some customs I have handled. I may have to take out and insurance policy on it. Anyone know a good knife insurance salesman? Here are some pics to help out the guys and gals that do not get to experience this.

P.S. It is serial #409 So much for super limited huh? Whatever still epic!

Worth repeating:

"272" were allocated for direct sale by ZT on Sep. 30th. The actual number produced is higher than that. How many? Who knows!

The true upscale ZT LE are indeed on par or better than "most" customs. However, nobody is perfect.

The ZT LE I have in mind are: 0777, 0777M390, 0777M390BLK, 0560CBCF, 0600, 0600BLK, 0888, 0888MAX, 0888M390, 0801CF, 0891BRWCF, 0454, 0392 (not out yet).

Because there wont be 1 person flipping 7 of them because they have a dealer buddy.

Who cares ?...i don't care who flips what or how many.

Bottom line....their are still many who did not get a knife.

The secondary market sales are the same.

Who benifits from ZTs move ?

ZT benifits !!....they now made double the money...are they entitled ? Yes !! It's capitalism at it's best.

I have no problem with it, just don't play like it's for the people. :-)

I sold mine four months ago.

I believe that I benefited from the new system. Without it I would have to pay secondary prices and I would not be able to justify that, so I would never have experienced this knife without it! Also thanks to this forum because even though I am on ZT's newsletter I was not notified, until I came upon this thread.

I benefited from it, got one at MSRP and wouldn't even consider it at the secondary market prices no matter how good it is. So some people are benefiting from it, and as many people flip them I'm sure there are quite a few people who are going to hang onto them for a long time to come.

You were one of the lucky ones this time , the old system luck you may have got it cheaper as dealer cost would have been half.

BigMark408,

What is the crux of your objection to the new ZT LE direct sales?

Has it cut out a lot of dealer profits?

Yes I was able to get some ZT LE below MSRP -- 0560CBCF, 0801CF, 0801BRWCF, 0600, 0600BLK, 0777M390, 0777M390BLK -- but for others I paid at or more than MSRP -- 0777, 0888, 0888MAX, 0888M390, 0454.

ZT dealers were holding back on the LE just to pad their bottom line. I doubt if many ZT dealers are happy about that.

In the long run, I see fewer ZT dealers not just due to the direct sales of the LE but restricting selling price to between MAP and MSRP very recently.

It seems to me that ZT is an evolving project in many realms.

Not everyone will get a knife, only 292 were released in the USA. That is the definition of limited.

That may be true, but in my opinion this particular knife would have gone the way of the 888 and nobody would see them at the dealer level. I got lucky on the 0801 BRWCF as well with the old system. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that knife had a MSRP of $400. I bought 1 at $375 and 1 at $385, thanks to this forum's exchange in the dealer section. Lets call that a 10 percent savings off of MSRP. So at the dealers I bought from, this knife would have been roughly $450

I may buy on the internet secondary but rarely patronize online dealers.

I prefer to patronize my local brick & mortar store.

Real American store front stores will no longer have the L.E.

ZT also is cutting off their distributers..

Bottom line, ZT profits more and their dealers profit less.

When Your town loses 75% of it's local shops that you patronize maybe you will understand.

It's not about knives for me.

I'm just not drinking the koolaid.

The limited edition knives are what 3% of KAI's business? Dealers can still get every other knife they make, as many as they want. Your logic makes no sense, a business isn't going to go under because they don't get the LE knives, get real.

Not many brick and mortar stores receive the smaller LE ZT's anyways, knives such as the 888, 777, ect.

Of course this system benefits ZT, but it is also more beneficial to the knife community as well. The previous LEs that were sold from dealers were usually marked above MSRP and a lot of people were given priority as well as the option to purchase multiples.

I agree with everything bigmark408 is saying. Unlike you Mark I do not have a local shop that even carries ZT's, much less one that will get an LE. I frequent the local gunshops and they get my business even though they are more expensive. Also while the dealers may be losing revenue from the way ZT is choosing to run their company, it is not their system. Car dealers have been doing business this way for as long as I have been in the industry. There is still a lot of money to be made in the auto industry.

What a crock of sh*t, most of us dont have a "brick and mortar shop" within a days drive. If it wasnt for online sales we wouldnt even be able to get knives. You dont like the system we get it lol get over it.

Got mine. I like it. A lot. Looks and feels absolutely amazing. Guess what I'm carrying tomorrow... :D
