Yes, but LE's bring new customers to the dealers site/store and some of those new customers become repeat and regular purchasers.This is how I formed my list of dealers whom I prefer to purchase from again and again from due to great service and competitive prices.MAP and direct sales changes the playing field for both dealers and consumers.Guess who gets squeezed for the extra cash in the end?We can argue numbers and profits, and business models etc.. and go around in circles, The bottom line is that the consumer is paying more per knife.The secondary market a totally separate market than retail in my eyes.I have had a chance to buy every LE ZT by keeping plugged in on this site.I have had every one in my cart for pre-order on the first day dealers posted them,or in my cart from dealers that did not take pre-orders.Some I purchased, and some I passed on and the choice was always there wither I purchased the knife.This method and business model worked well for me and I have had zero issues acquiring the ZT LE's of my choice. I shopped at many dealers and had a chance to compare prices, or just purchase the knife from one of my prefered dealers.So now my choices are taken away and I can no longer compare prices plus either have to purchase at MAP for standard production models, or full MSRP for LE plus shipping.So who wins in the end?The flippers?The consumers?KAI USA?The dealers?Not me personally......ZT puts out some really popular and quite fantastic knifes.I can say for sure that I consider the LE's some of the finest production knifes that I have ever owned.I hope you all enjoy your 0454's and for those who missed out there will be another one down the road or around the corner.I am sure this won't be your last shot at a ZT LE....Chasing LE knifes on the secondary market just does not make sense to me.To each their own and happy trails to you.........

ZT also is cutting off their distributers..

Bottom line, ZT profits more and their dealers profit less.

When Your town loses 75% of it's local shops that you patronize maybe you will understand.

It's not about knives for me.

Living here in NJ they only place that you can buy a knife is at walmart and pay $70 bucks for a kershaw blur. We don't have huge knife shops like other parts of the country that would sell a LE
 
njblows- Most places dont. I live less than a half hour from KAI and cant find any LE's around here either
 
You can still google their name, bladeforums, and a knife's model number. Google's cache has a good memory.

Looks like someone is butthurt they can't flip their dealer connection knives for a profit. So I guess that sums up who lost with this new distribution model.

My 0454 comes today, should be delivered while I'm in class. I will enjoy it, and keep it. Having twins is a blessing, since that means bigmark408 doesn't have two more to flip.

My buddy and I have never gotten one of these LE's before and we try every time. Either we get the pre-order that never fulfills or the dealer sells to his friend (and I suspect gets additional kickback). There are no brick and mortar knife stores that sell these types of knives in my area.

This direct sale based on first come first serve is terrific. My buddies and I took time to research, took time away from our lives to sit around to get the knife. We got our 0454 based on being knife enthusiasts and work, not knowing some dealer that plays favorites (which is fine too, if your a favorite).

I think this is the fairest model. I think ZT did a service to their customers in my opinion. I don't really care what dealers prices were because I never got a chance to pay that. My prices are based on 2nd market because that is all I had access to, and these prices are much cheaper.

ZT 0454 confirmed to be delivered tomorrow!!!
 
For what it's worth I'm still enjoying this thread. Most of the input is entertaining no matter how it's delivered. I'm one of the buyers that has to wait until Friday so I'm still gassed up with anticipation. The real mystery now is what serial number I'll be getting. If my luck runs true to form it will be the last knife off the line :D

Regardless of all the drama, ZT/KAI is trying to find a work around to problems that the old system had. Is the new system better?? Maybe yes, maybe no. Time will tell. As far as flipping goes, it will happen no matter what system is in place, so that is not a concern. What should be a concern is that dealers were either marking up LE's or holding on to them to sell later at a higher price. I understand why ZT does not want that to occur. Hopefully they get a nice fluid system in place for future sales and we can go on worrying about more pressing issues.

I'm in 100% agreement. This system is an improvement because it gives someone like me a chance to actually get one. I've tried, and failed repeatedly, to get in on previous limited editions where I essentially had no chance because I didn't know the right person or whatever.

It was particularly disheartening when I called one dealer by phone about finding out when they would open up orders for a particular LE that I knew was hitting other dealers, and they said that they knew how many they were getting and that they were all already spoken for before they ever got them, and that the "preorder coming soon" page on their website (that had never been available) should be ignored.

Under the new system, everybody who wanted one had a solid chance of getting one, including me for once--yeah!
