Don't take RZ's comment to mean that less than 300 were built, because that would not be true. No one knows how many were made but rest assured its more than 300 :)

Oh I know:)

I'm just quoting ZT, there may be blackwashed 0454 popping up in a couple months from overseas, who knows. I'm just talking about "as advertised".

Worldwide roll-out has already happened, I think. Pretty sure we were the last roll-out here in North America for the 0454s.

When you search zt 0454 on youtube, you see Russian videos of the 0454, but they have different blades. I guess it is possible that they might be Sinkevich customs but the knives look just like the 0454

Seeing some serial #'s over 400 I believe they made 500. I'll bet there will be a world wide roll out in the near future.
Just a guess though

ZT specifically stated that serial numbers on LE knives DO NOT go in order and DO NOT represent production count. They also stated that 272 were made.

Everything is relative. In some parts of the world you can get a car for that money. If a guy says it's too expensive for him - it is, no need to flaunt your bigger budget. It contributes nothing positive or constructive to the subject. Just saying.
My comment had nothing to do with affordability. He already bought it, but now is reluctant to EDC it. My comment was if you own it, to carry it and use it. Nothing tasteless about what I wrote at all.

UPS just dropped mine off. Got serial #360, and it's perfect.

No plans to sell mine unless you got both items in my sig + cash. ;)

You posted:
"Too expensive to EDC? It cost less than half of my top 2 EDC knives. Carry on."

Given your reply to my comment you should have posted:

"Too expensive to EDC? You already bought it! Carry on."

It is the "look at me, I can afford to EDC two knives that are twice as expensive" message that made me comment on your post. However, if your true intent was as you stated then as you said - carry on!

In terms of market prediction: within a week the prices will drop to high $600s - low $700s. Within four weeks there will be none available for sale. Within a year you will see one offered once in a blue moon and it will start at $1,500. Within 5 years a mint sample will not be attainable for less than $3,000. That is IF ZT sticks to their stated total production number and does not release any more.

I agree with almost everything except the next few weeks being in the $600s. I think some of the flippers might go $750. everything is really spot on though bro

And it begins, Pictures worth more than words: I cannot be any happier with this knife. I'm looking to get another one, so my favorite modder can go crazy on it @JIKnives

I believe it was in the e-mail that was sent out if you subscribed to the newsletter. 272 for direct sale online from the ZT web site on 9/30. I can't seem to find the email right now (may have deleted it already).

The ZT web site only processes sales to the US and Canada. We know 10 more were sold at the Blade show (they had a lotto drawing there). There may have been others sold at other shows as well. Given the 0454's origins, I'd also expect some number were sent overseas. In all, only KAI knows how many 0454's were produced. You might be able to make a guess based on serial numbers, but that's not going to be certain either.

Got mine. It's #195 and I'm a happy camper. No plans to sell...not any time soon, anyway.

I would be ALL OVER a regular production version of this knife, but with a 3.5-3.75" blade and G10 handles.

Everyone keeps talking about additional knives being sold overseas to add to the total number of knives produced. Where are these details coming from???

I have seen ZERO reference to this anywhere except here and it seems like nothing but speculation and assumptions. However, I have not seen anything internationally that says otherwise so I still think that maybe around 300 tops were made.

I could be wrong but I have not seen anything to persuade me otherwise.

Please show me where they stated that .........

Here's a link to the newsletter they sent out on September 10th mentioning the 272:

"There will be 272 of these ZT Limited Edition 0454s available.

Sale starts 9/30/2014 at 6 pm PST."

There?

In all fairness "will be 272 available" is "lawyer" speak. Available on 9/30/2014? Available in total? Closer to in total given the entire announcement but still open to something like "due to popular demand we decided to extend...". That would be deceitful though so ZT has to weigh the temptation of getting more $$$ at the possible expense of not being taken seriously with the next LE run. If I were them, I'd stick with 272 and just make another LE design to get that $$$. Reputation is worth a lot more than a quick buck.

Also think about the number. Weren't 8 auctioned at Blade? Add another 30 in possible blems/in-house keepers/gifts, etc and you have a round 300. Makes sense, BUT you never know, if they succumb to greed they will make more, however I would hope they didn't make such a mistake. They can just make another LE and a) preserve the integrity of the brand in the eyes of collectors and b) make that more $$$.

Has anyone seen announcements like above in any other language or any other country?

I always figured that US and Canada were KAI's primary markets and almost never see anything mentioned about international sales outside production models.
