Zt 0454

This is a cool looking knife and all, but its a lot of money for a composite CPM D2 Sandvik 14C. Nothing wrong with those steels, I love D2, I just expect more from a high dollar knife.

Making a composite blade limits you to steels that heat treat in a range compatible with the way they are welded

For those saying their over the secondary market on ZTs why don't you jump on a pre order early on? I for one pre order every ZT I can same day they are released at a show. Pre ordered the 0392 Friday already

Care to share the love...er...places to go? I've been trying to preorder ZTs for ages but they are so popular it's like trying to buy an iPhone the day of release!

I am so over the secondary market markup that unfortunately I just look at these and ignore them.if the 392 turns out this way,il just keep walking.the 562 is the only one I know ill be able to buy without getting gouged...

My exact thoughts

Another review of the ZT 0454. a couple of minor things. The reviewer mentions that the two black portions of the blade being D2 but it's CPM-D2 and talks about lack of jimping for a short flipper button.

The reviewer also said: "The 0454 is yet another showcase of ZT’s talent and we can only hope that the sweet stuff found in these high end limited production knives continue to trickle down to ZT’s mass market products"

I think that due to the narrow profile and light weight the ZT 0454 would make an excellent EDC. Hopefully, we can all have an opportunity to get one!

So I just got my 0454 yesterday. Awesome. Amazingly light. Maybe too light. I'm finding when I close it using the liner lock, one handed is a little scary due to the blade length. The blade just barely knicked my finger and now I'm wearing a band-aid. Sharpest blade I've ever owned. Also, my serial came in at #286. I was disapointed in that the web site stated #272. I under stand there may be losses at Q/C and others were at the blade show but to me that number should say "around 272" or only around 300 made. Maybe I'm being too critical but this was my first LE purchase and I ordered at 9PM sharp on Sept 30. And when I did, the website stated 96 still left. I just wanted to be in the 272 range.

Mine is #344, and I've seen some numbered up into the 400s--not that I care what serial I get, I'm not a nutty collector.

That said, it has been made clear on another unnamed placed that there were many, many more 0454s than just three hundred of them. The limited release (272 + 10 each for two knife shows) was the number for US/Canada only.

It's a great knife, who cares what number they put on it?

At least half, if not more went to Russia. Do a little reading before making blind statements.

Do tell mr anderson, where one could do a little reading on how Kai has sent at least half of all 0454s to Russia...

This could be true of course but it is far from common knowledge and the tone of your post makes you come off like a jerk-off.

It's possible a Kai representative who used to post here a lot said as much at another place, but that other place has a rule against reproducing information from there on any other forum. Just an, uh, hypothetical. I wouldn't know. Please don't ban my account at the other place. Dissent is not appreciated there, you always need to agree with the hive mind and that includes that the manufacturers and custom makers are perfect in every way. It's a very "North Korea is best Korea" sort of environment that way.

Whatever the rules are on another forum, they do not apply here. This place has it's own set of rules that members need to respect and adhere to. Carry on.

It's been repeated to DEATH on every topic about the 0454. The designer of the knife is from Russia. It's common sense. Im sorry you can't put 2 and 2 together.

I'm a member there, It was never said how many were shipped anywhere. It's common sense, but apparently that's too hard for most members of this forum. That isn't a USN rule, it's a KAI rule. It was asked not to share information outside of the KAI forum.

Everyone has a dull knife in their drawer. Guess we just found another one.
