ZT 0777 - KAI customer service email

I mostly lurk here but I have to say I am disappointed with the way KAI has handled the 0777. I am also disappointed with the responses from the members here when someone hints at the smallest bit of criticism directed at KAI. They have clearly stated they have lost enthusiasm on the 0777 project and the 0777 is not a priority. How can a company improve there business or products without constructive criticism? Almost everything I have read here has been constructive and KAI deserves to have its customers voice their frustrations as much as their praise. For what it's worth I preordered this knife and I am very excited about it.

Some of you should be ashamed of your responses and your attitude towards new members voicing their concerns.

There is a fair bit of difference between constructive criticism and just plain bitching/complaining.
There are quite a few of us that spend a fair bit of time here and regard this forum as our home base on the web, so it can be frustrating to see people complaining and not being the least bit understanding of what is involved in actually producing these knives (not just the 0777). Only complaining about what is going on and not giving any encouragement certainly doesn't help to build the enthusiasm back up for the people at Kai. And as far as I know, nobody has actually paid for one of these knives, and therefore no one is actually entitled to complain about the delivery date. When the knife is available, it's available. I won't say that it isn't frustrating to wait so long for a knife you really want, if you look at the Tilt for example, I think it was well worth the wait, and if anything, I appreciate it that much more.
Of course having said all that, it is an open forum, and I respect everyone's right to express their opinions, but please think about the hard working people at the other end that are making (and have made) the knives we all like so much.

The 777 will come. Am I disappointed that this isn't KAI USA's number one priority? Not so much. Kershaw/ZT's success isn't built on products like the 777. Like many others have stated previously, I would rather have the product perfected before it ships.

I don't know if your disappointment for KAI, disappointment for the members is a genuine thing or not.
I've never seen you post so I have no idea what kind of "internet persona" you make for yourself.
You see criticism and I see complaints.
I've got nothing against someone complaining, just don't do it with a sarcastic holier than thou attitude.

Your first post is a complaint about people complaining about complainers.
You should contribute more often. First post in 7 yrs. Why don't you contribute here?

I love that all these members are just coming out of nowhere to post... I don't care about criticism...but saying cut the BS..wheres the 0777...you guys suck... How could 3 companies rip off your design and yours isn't even finished yet....I'm not hearing concerned members I'm hearing whining... And I'm gonna stand up for KAI and give you the same response whether your new or been here since day one..

Kershaw/ZT's success isn't built on products like the 777.
- I've only owned a handful of Kershaw knives (Leek, Chive, etc.). None of their previous ZT knives appealed to me. I did take notice of the ZT0777 simply because it won the Knife of the Year award. While their success isn't built on the ZT777 specifically, they weren't shy about the marketing of the knife.

And your point is.....? They heavily advertise their products? Who wouldn't?

My disappointment is with KAI and the fanboy emotional responses to any criticism of KAI. I work in product development for a 3D printer manufacturer and understand the difficulty of bringing a new product to the market. I also understand why the 0777 lost momentum. Our company relies on customer feedback and I am sure KAI does also. If we don't voice our concerns and frustrations no one knows how excited people are for a knife like this and we may never see a knife this made.

- The point is that they advertise their award winning products that are not available. It's not hard to see why some people are not happy that it still is not on the market.

So does spyderco.....the autonomy. Just one off the top of my head. They delayed their forum knife until 2013. They show protos at every show they go to, some of which have not made it to the market....No biggie there.

KAI will make the 0777, it takes time. Relax everyone. Its a damascus composite blade. Who else has done that? Exactly, nobody. How do we know how much time it takes? I'm quite sure it's an involved process, and if they rushed it and made half that weren't quite up to expectations, I for one would be much more disappointed. Give them some time. It WILL get here.

- Spyderco also is criticized for delays. KAI has also stated several times that the ZT777 was due for release at several points and ended up not meeting their date.

- I'm not in any rush for the ZT777. I'd love to buy one, but at the end of the day, it's just a really nice looking knife. I have plenty of other quality knives to carry. My comment was simply to say that I understand why others may be upset at the delay.

Its not like they have it on Billboards and in Full page ads in the New York Times.... Hell its not even on there Website. And Like I've said a Million Times they never made a Statement saying it will Be out on Such date... Why its Called a Projected Release Date..

I'm thinking maybe I hadn't been reading the right magazines or visiting the right websites, but what advertising and marketing for the 0777 were you referring to. I remember picking up an info sheet on it at Blade the year it won, but beyond that I didn't really see anything that Kai was directly responsible for (I could be completely wrong though). After Blade most of what was seen was websites or magazines doing their own stories, or that big batch of 0777 pics that I posted.

Aside from being on display at Blade every year, I think the fact that it won a Blade award at all is advertising. It's "Overall knife of the year" for 2011, but approaching two years later it's still not for sale. Wouldn't it be more appropriate then to be competing against other 2013 models? If a knife isn't required to be on sale to win awards, it's basically winning based on its concept and design. By that sense, the lightsaber should win every year until it's actually produced. And I'm sure some of you won't mind pre-ordering it and waiting for perfection.

Seriously? Winning the award is free publicity. Paying someone for promotional space or time is advertising and marketing. One of the complaints I was attempting to address was that Kai supposedly has massively advertised and marketed the 0777, causing insatiable demand an clearly a great deal of anguish for all those people that act like they have already paid for the knife. As far as I know Kai has actually done very little to market or advertise the 0777 other than the info that they are incredibly kind to share with us here and in other forums because they know we are interested, and that people actually asked.

I'd gladly pre-order a lightsaber, but as a cutting device they have an inherent flaw not present in a good knife; they will always destroy some of the material you are trying to cut, so perfection is not likely.

"0" please add the zero, its important! It's a ZT0777! It's not hard to push one extra key, stop being lazy.

That goes for the 0301, 0560, 0200. Straighten up people!

Not nearly to the level that KAI is

Fair enough.
