ZT 0801 lock bar slip; Does yours exhibit this behavior?

I will start out by saying, I'm extremely pleased with the latest offerings from ZT. Prior to owning the 0801 I was a bit concerned about the lack of jimping. After purchasing this knife and physically holding it in my hand, it's a non-issue.

Many owners of the ZT 0801 have noticed that the lock bar will slip almost all of the way over, with a hard grip of the handle. My new 0801 exhibits the same behavior. I will say that my 0600; which also has a steel lock insert, does not.

With that said, it seems to me this characteristic of the lock bar slipping with applied force, may be a defect.

Please chime in if your ZT 0801 also has this issue. Feel free to give your opinion on the matter. I'm debating on whether I should send it into KAI, or not.

*update* Well, obviously we have a lot of folks that do not own the ZT 0801. Below is a video JDavis provided. See around 3:25 of the video.

It's NOT a defect. The lockbar is doing Its job. I don't see any need to send the knife in for warranty.

You seem to have the absolute worst luck with ZT knives, your history with them is extremely colorful to put it politely. That said, why not avoid the potential fallout and do something below radar, like sending the knife in. Instead you put yourself out there yet again, possibly awaiting more controversy.

Lol,oh dang here we go again. Duro, I bet ZT would( PAY YOU ) to NOT buy one of their knives. You're either cursed when it comes to their knives or the issue lies much deeper. Why not just call them ?

Nope. Just send it in or sell it. If you truly keep having an issue with every ZT knife you buy, STOP buying them.

Unless the lock bar material is completely inflexible or the part of it that actually bends is so small, this will occur with any frame lock if an appropriate amount of force is applied. More so if the force is applied at the middle of the bar as this will result in the greatest flex of the lock bar and the corresponding shortening of the distance between the face of the lock bar and the pivot point of the lock bar. I always considered this a plus, as the harder you use a knife, the tighter you are likely to grip the handle resulting in more of the lock faces being engaged. Of course it'll probably be harder to unlock it later, but that is easily cured with carful application of leverage.

Lock bar slip isn't a defect?

Not the kind of slip he's talking about. He's saying it slips inwards towards the other side of the handle. Steel on steel (same RC hardness)is by nature smooth and therefore slippy. Steel on Ti is by nature rough and therefore sticky (because of the galling).......it seems it's impossible to please people in the knife industry. First they complain about the lock sticking. And once they solve that problem they complain about the lock NOT sticking.

When you say it slips almost all the way over, are you saying the lockbar goes almost all the way across the tang, or just that nearly 100% of the lockbar is engaging the tang? The first situation would suck. The second I would consider totally normal.

You sure complain a lot. Not just about ZTs but about other knives and about the retailers also. Maybe time to reconsider your hobbies? This hobby doesn't seem to be pleasurable for you and you may be more happy taking up knitting or small animal husbandry.

You're right. There seems to be a lot of poor quality production knives on the market from a few big players in the industry. I'm beginning to think that the only way KAI can offer such a high quality knife, at a great price, is to skimp out on employee wages and QC.

Fallout? I could care less. I'm simply stating the facts..as per usual.

You sir are correct. It's time to forget about production knives and move further into customs.

...., it seems to me this characteristic ...may be a defect.

Feel free to give your opinion on the matter.

It is not a defect...or even a problem. It is it an opinion, it is a fact...unless you or someone can demonstrate an example of how this could be a problem.

Count me among those that sincerely question why you would bring this matter up.
