ZT 2018 LINEUP

I think there's a good chance we'll some autos (including OTF) from ZT for the 2018 lineup. The Kershaw Launch autos have been selling very well.

I too would love to see a ZT OTF, especially if it was a collaboration with Gavin Hawk on the Deadlock.

I have grilled Gavin on this collab for a few years now, the answer is still no. The question is, why?

Answer: The deadlock is a homerun. People are lining up to get custom deadlocks from Hawk Knives. Granted, they can only make a few at a time, but they retain 100% of the profits from each sale. Once you give it to a production company, you will only get 5-7% of sales as the designer. So it makes sense for them to retain the mechanism and design for a while, before handing it off to any production company.

Fingers crossed that day comes sooner rather than later. There may be an intermediary options between production and custom Deadlocks though... we shall see.

I’d like to see some lighter stuff. A reasonably strong knife with good steel is what I wanna buy. Not a tactical knife. Nothing wrong with them but I’m not interested in ANYTHING that weighs over 4oz.

Although the 0450 has been haunting my dreams lately. I went to Bass Pro Shops and fondled one and it was pretty sweet. I’m fairly certain my next knife is either going to be that or a Spydie Para3. And I’ll probably end up with both at some point, assuming I keep the wife reasonably happy. :D

What about the 460?

I just want something new that's tiger stripped!! I'd love to see something similar to the 300 series.

Same here, gonna be mad if they don't do it.

Glad to see some 20CV recognition! What is m390 anyways...(isn’t that a German steel?) produced here by Teutonic carpetbaggers! Or cts-204p(does the extra .3% Si make it softer?)

Wouldn’t that just be a 0566?

Not even a little bit. Different steel, different grind, different pivot bearing system, lockbar insert, much more developed machining from ZT now vs what was going on the 0566, hopefully closer to 3" than 3.25". Very much a different knife. The 0566 is quite dated.

That sounds about right, I didn’t get my 0562cf until last summer, and my 0804cf until the price temporarily dropped to $200! Was it worth waiting more than a year to save $80? For me, yeah, since I’m still playing with the 550!

For me, this is the last thing I want. The tiger-striped blades were the only lame bit I saw in those early ZTs. I was super glad they moved away from the whole super-slick operator vibe they tried to portray back then. Of course, they've gone too far towards art knives, now.

If I could make a wishlist for ZT it would be:

1) EDC-friendly knives. Not mall-ninja, tiger-striped silliness. Not wall-hanger, mult-grind silliness. Some more pops of color. Enough to make the knife fun without compromising the ZT house look.

2) Collabs. They already do a great job with this and should continue.

3) If you are going to do a sprint/LE version of an existing knife, so it Spyderco-style with different colors, finishes, AND blade steel.

4) If you are going to innovate do it with practical technology, not aestetics. A carbon fiber insert in a blade is dumb. A SLT opener is cool.

I think that's it.

This guy right here is the reason knives get discontinued.
Boo!!!
Remember everybody, next time a knife you like gets discontinued, it's the fault of the guy quoted here.

;)
