A annasoH323 I am a fan of my 0801 I have very similar feelings to what you have described
My advice is pick a 0630, the CF version of you can afford it should be great
IMO te 0801 is the best KVT flipper from ZT, but my bes knives from ZT are manual-washers folders: 0550 and 0630
ZT follows trends with all the titanium framelock shall bearing flipper things since they have great manufacturing capabilities but where they really stand up to any midterm is on their design of manual folders on washers
Their operate smoothly with enough detent to be flipped open if required
My best experience with manual folders are CRK and my couples of ZT
If you don't already have experienced one don't miss the opportunity to get one at a discount price
I dream of a manual framelock with a solid m390 blade
Just like the 0630CF without the wave
But still, my 0630 is at the moment my reference for ZT craftsmanship
Thanks for sharing. I largely agree with you. First, my affinity for the 0801 came from a survival skills class in college and I used the 0801 on a weekend field trip to simulate what it would be like if I got lost on a light hike since I'd be more likely to carry my 0801 than an ax. I did... okay but my 0801 did fine for what I tried to do with it.
I have an 0550 and it's my go-to when I need to feel large and in-charge (like walking my small dog near much bigger ones). I was convinced to get it over the 0560 during the Hinderer craze because people compared it so favorably to the "old school" ZT toughness. The "thwack" it makes when flicked out is the most intimidating sound I am capable of producing.
You're right, I think I'd really enjoy having something from the ZT/Emerson family and I'd like to since, as you say, it's worthwhile as a statement of ZT quality. It is hard to justify on my use case but then again, some things are worth more than their utility.
