Stoking a little more controversy here; knowing that this will be flip bate for a lot of those who get their hands on one of these, anyone want to wager what these will be going for on day 2?

It's a production, there are no custom makers at the KAI facility. I've handled shitty midtechs though, so don't buy into the market hype. For that matter I've handled shitty custom knives. As for production knives, this one is special.

I will reiterate though what I think someone else on this thread said before - worth is simply the price that the market will bare. I had a chat with a retailer who is on the list and they said that they received much less stock than they have for previous LEs... interesting...
 
I might be wrong, but I'll be surprised if flippers are able to get a huge markup for these things. Like most of the recent ZT LEs, they appear to be very polarizing, and at least as many people hate them as love them.
 
They'll be selling for $1600+ on the auction site the week after the initial offering.

That is my guess. Go try to find a ZT0888 in Maxamet right now....

Depends on whether or not ZT decides to make more variations of these..different steels, colors etc.
 
I'm really torn on whether or not to try and get one. If I did, I likely wouldn't carry it, as I agree that the carbon fiber insert would make any real cutting challenging. But I do like the look of it, and so do many others. It wouldn't have won knife of the year if it wasn't received well. $750 is pretty steep price for a non-custom that I probably wouldn't carry though.
 
The 888's I have seen sell are closer to $800 - $900

The 0999 intrigues me.

I love the overall design and engineering/manufacturing that has gone into it.

I think I'm in :)
 
Ah yes, the 0999 will be out in a few hours, and I've been spending the last few weeks hunting for a 0888MAX. It's a shame my pay comes in only on the 10th...by which time there will no longer be any of either left.

Well, it WAS "expedited", and coming all the way from California!

I guess if you are going to be a flipper/gouger, may as well be top tier. ;^)

The following picture shows a ZT0888M390 (top) and ZT0888MAX (bottom).

The M390 I had showed a more "silvery" coating on the handle as compared to the MAX. You can see the contrast on the M390's pocket clip.

I am not sure if all of them were like that, but it surely was a beautiful treatment.

You can see the family resemblance between the 888 and the 999, both are McNair designs I believe.
