ZT0606, who's on board?

I love it. Especially the Custom Pivot. Can't wait to get one in my hands and carry it.

The backlash over the price tag is comical when China made pieces are fetching around $400 and aren't even close to this.

And if this was a Benchmade Gold Class it would be closer to a grand.

If I'm being honest, this looks EXACTLY like some of the knives Kizer and Reate make. Heh, that's probably why I don't like it.

Another ZT at hinderer prices. No thanks.

Not sure what this has to do with anything. Hinderer knives are priced where they are because of their lack of economy of scale not any better methods/materials etc.

Considering this is a limited piece, it also loses a lot of the economy of scale that ZT capitalizes on so that's why the price goes up.

They have a lower number of pieces to spread out the design and tooling costs over. Not to mention the custom pivot made by Matt and RJ.

It's one thing when you can buy a hinderer knife by ZT for the same price as the 'real deal' with the same hardware. You can't even sniff another knife with the pivotless pivot for under $2000

I like the color. There's only so much acid stonewashing, bronze anodization and black a guy can take. Sometimes you gotta go bright and colorful and this is the perfect blade to do it.

As for the price, a few years back some of the community had no issues with paying over a grand for a Begg knife that was essentially a production piece with similar build and materials...but most couldn't afford it so Begg Steelcraft comes along and brings overseas made Begg designs for $400+ and those who couldn't afford a Begg Knives produced piece but wanted one now cheered. In fact most of the community was ecstatic...but for some reason ZT produces a high end piece and they are criticised for even bringing it to market.

Hey, if the knife isn't for you, then it isn't for you, but to say they have it all wrong or that they are insane for even thinking of selling this piece is quite foolish.

Comparison to the Todd Begg Steelcraft series is apt. The Steelcraft Field Marshall has a 4" blade of S35VN made by Reate and selling for $460. Frankly, both ZT 0606CF at $500 and Steelcraft Field Marshall are worth it. I'm sure part of the price of the 0606CF is the custom made pivot by Matt Martin.

I'm sure there will be other models in the 0606CF series with color schemes palatable to more tastes. Steelcraft Field Marshall comes in quite a few variations as well and here's one.

The ZT 0606 is a fantastic knife. I've spent a fair bit of time with one (a prototype), and I can say that the knife feels great in the hand, flips like an RJ custom, from what I've seen the colors look even better on the production versions than the prototypes, and the grinds which were beautiful on the protos, may also be even better. Matt's execution of the pivotless pivot looks looks just as good as the full custom ones.

Last time I spoke to RJ about the 0606, he was VERY pleased and impressed with ZT's production of the knife and he even pointed out how he really liked the blue and gold (more so than some other possible colors). What I got out of the conversation was that RJ genuinely likes the 0606. Considering the designer likes the color and looks of the knife so much I don't think the 0606 is an example of ZT "losing their way", unless maybe you don't think much of a knife maker of RJ's caliber and stature.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you don't like it just say it isn't to your taste and move on. People seem to have been complaining that ZT knives are all the same, or that they're plain, and still complain when they're different.

I can say that I will not hesitate to pick one of these up, it will be well worth the price. If you are an RJ fan, don't miss out on this one, this knife is really as close as you can get to a full RJ custom without actually being one and you'll have better odds of getting one than at the lottery at RJ's table at a show.

ZT 0606CF goes on sale Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 9am Pacific Time through select ZT dealers for $500. List of dealers will be announced on the evening of November 1st.

This is a great looking knife. I've always been a fan of RJ's designs.

Frankly, it's a little rich for my blood but that takes nothing away from the fact that it's another awesome piece from ZT.

I really like the blade design with the two tone black and silver. It's very nice looking, IMHO. But the scales are just too gaudy for me. Especially at $500. I can buy 2 or 3 very nice production knives for that price. And I can actually USE them, rather than just LOOK at this LE knife.

Pass.

Love RJ's designs, it's on the must have list!

I don't think we'll see the number of variations of the 0606 like we did with the 0392. Matt Martin made a set number of pivots and when they are gone, they will be gone. Depending on how many Matt made (who knows) and how many of the blue gold there are (again, who knows), this may be the only shot at getting one.

This isn't the 0392 where they can just call up the Hinderer shop and say, send us over X number of hardware sets in this color.

Why about this makes it unusable?

Every RJ ZT/Kershaw so far has worked and cut fine, including the 0600. So if you can't use them, that sounds like a personal problem and not one of the knife itself.

This kind of thinking reminds me of the people who buy comics, immediately bag and board them, and then never read them. Then they go and get the digital one to read. Seems foolish, and antithetical to the spirit of the item.

But hey, it's your money. Enjoy.
