ZT0801; A quiet success?

I suppose what concerns me about the 801's ELMAX is the absence of any cutting-performance videos that show it performing well.

With the ZT 801 being such a popular knife due to its great handle design and flipper action, you'd figure there would be at least a handful of good cutting performance videos.

I still think the best thing KAI could do is make several cutting performance and testing videos. It's warranted (and would likely increase sales enough to cover the marginal production costs) considering the controversy and heat KAI is taking over ELMAX's performance.

Again, the way to handle criticism toward performance is not to throw rotten eggs at the critic, but to prove their assertions wrong.

I don't need any cutting or performance videos. I have more than a few Kershaw/ZT products with Elmax (some more used than others) and I've had zero problems with any of them.

I told you gently before to not make Kai Corps the topic of conversation in this thread. It is off-topic and not needed. Then you post this.

There will be no more gentle warnings about this so keep it up and see what happens.

I think Kai has better things to do than to make videos to refute literally 3 videos on youtube and appease a very vocal but very very small minority. If companies took the time to respond and offer proof for every specious criticism thrown their way, they would never get anything accomplished.

Here is a cut video where the person did basically a few hundred cuts of cardboard with only stropping it on said cardboard and it still sliced paper pretty easily. He says he's not impressed but it begs the question, 'what would be impressive?'

I absolutely love my 801, I wasn't sure if I was going to buy it either but I figured why not. I am so glad that I did. I am really happy that I did buy it. Can't wait for the 801cf

I am mixed up and don't understand? Are you referring to KAI Corp the Poster and member on this forum or Kai the Corporation(The Company that produces ZT, Kershaw and Shun)?I thought the topic is the ZT 801 which is produced By KAI .The 801 is a wonderful knife and worth the retail price.I consider Elmax a step up from S30v and my personal usage has proven such.I would love to see someone do a side by side controlled video comparing ZT's S30v to Zt's Elmax. The 801 is a very smooth flipper that has great fit and finish. The 801 is a great alternative to the Domino for those of us who would prefer a USA produced flipper around the same price point, or already like Kershaw and ZT.

I'd like to tell you how good the ZT 0801 is...

I have three great flippers with full titanium handles and frame lock. Fit and finish on all are just excellent. The flipper actions are smooth, snappy and stellar.

Here they are: Wilson Combat Eagle (3.6" blade), Zero Tolerance 0801 (3.5" blade) and Curtiss F3 (3.4" blade). Now, the Eagle and F3 are custom and have superior attention to detail -- just perfect! However, what I'm driving at is how good the 0801 is. Here's the clincher: F3 = $550 (mine is higher than that due to the great diamond texture handle finish and grooved titanium backspacer), Eagle = $535 and 0801 = $192!

Enough said!

All this poppycock about Elmax, Schmelmax, etc. are either isolated incidents or pure showmanship. That's just one person's opinion.

Almost forgot. I do have a pet peeve against ZT 0801: NEED titanium clip and chrome screws including pivot. :D

I was going to wait and get a 0801 after I got a CF0801M390, I bought a used 0801 here, and I scored a Great Knife. Flips like a dream. Domino, I don't have one yet, but by years end I should have one, a couple blades are in line first, AND TOTALLY digging seeing the F3 above, got to get another next year!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were sand/bead blasted and then polished. Just the surfaces tho, so the tolerances didn't change. Edit: the clip was also stonewashed to match the blade.

I don't have the equipment to do it myself, so I sent it out. The work was good, price was fair. Totally worth it to me. Y'all can pm me if you want more info.

Some people just love to sling mud out when there was really no mud around to sling.

I'm still on the edge on if I should get a 0801 or not because my ZT 0550 meets all my need for the moment so far this year. Not sure how similar or different the 0550 is compared to the 0801 enough to justify buying another folding knife. (Comments such as "Just buy them all!" will be ignored ;) )

Dimensionally (blade length, weight, etc.) they're the same.

ZT 0550BLK (with Hinderer CF scale) was my favorite ZT before 0801 came out. ZT 0801 has superb manual flipper action and full titanium handles and frame lock. It looks great at play but it's just as tough as the 0550 at work.

So it would appear that the 801's success has not been so quiet! I do know when I bought this knife I NEVER expected it to be in my pocket as much as it has. I really figured the ZT0600 would be riding my right pocket for a long, long time, only to be outed by the 801. Don't get me wrong as I do love the 0600 and am hoping that another one is going to come my way. Even my LionSteel SR-1 raindrop damascus bladed edc got kicked out .after only a two day ride. Here's my 801 along with my Fieldmaster w/walnut scales, and a Fenix PD32G2

I'm waiting for the CF version. Trying to keep spending to a minimum so when it hits I can pick one up. I have not tried M390 on a ZT so that would be my first, since I missed the 0777...

I've been looking for another 0600 as well, but no dealer I talked to has ordered more or expect any coming. Come to think about it, I don't recall reading any thread about people still waiting on their 0600 pre-orders.

I continue to get updates from KCI about my preorder, and I would hope they would let me know if they have already gone through their order and do not expect more. But it is looking dim as I remember reading somewhere that the 2nd batch of the 0600's were going to be out end of August/first of September? At least I have one and that's more than a lot of folks ended up with.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I can't make up my mind between the 0801 or the 0560BW. My father is out here visiting me for about another week and his birthday is today and I'm thinking of picking him up one as a late gift. I showed him videos earlier in the week of both trying to get his opinion but he seemed to like both. He is police officer and will actually carry and use it.

The 0801 seems more pocket friendly but I really love the look of the 0560BW. I'm probably going to get myself a matching knife whatever I grab for him. Now that the 0801 has been out a while does anyone have any thoughts on it compared to the 0560? Any suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
