0560 blade completely trashed, what are my options?

I learned my lesson awhile ago as to loaning knives, never ever do so. The one time I did the guy was a idiot and proceeded to cut a co-worker in the armpit while they were playing Ninjas or whatever.I got the knife back undamaged thankfully, luckily it was only a minor cut and not a stabbing wound this idiot inflicted. Sadly I didn't want to keep the knife, My ZT 801 black, as it just reminded me of that incident, so I traded it, after disinfecting it of course.

I've contacted ZT about one of my 0560's in the past since it has been discontinued and I was informed that they don't provide parts to discontinued knives. Now, mine was about pocket clips and handle screws... But, I doubt they do/have blade replacements for the 0560 anymore sorry bud.

Not according to what the OP has just experienced:

Awesome news, just heard back:

I confirmed that it applies even though the 0560 is discontinued and she said yes since they still have some blades. Not many so she said to send it in sooner rather than later.

Do I remember seeing 0560s with satin blades? I hope they have stonewashed ones left if that's the case. I'll be shipping it out tomorrow.

I don't recall seeing any satin bladed 56X's...the only finishes I recall seeing available were...

Stonewashed (early models have a lighter stonewash, later models heavier tumbled finish)
Blackwashed
Bead blasted (560cbcf)

Pretty sure that was it.

Black DLC too I believe (linked above). I'd bet on the replacement being stonewashed.

Given Kai's issues with overheating the Elmax blades in the ZT 56x models, if you're competent with good equipment, maybe you could have them install the replacement blade unsharpened and you could cut your own secondary bevel. Come to think of it, wouldn't it be great if we could order any production knives with a sharpened or unsharpened blade. Preferably with a price break on the unsharpened models! :D :D :D

How do you know that manufacturers don't do any finish-grinding after heat treatment? There's a chance that the entire blade could be compromised, but I trust that most companies know what they are doing.

That elmax thing was 5 plus years ago. They have had it figured out for a while now. Bringing it up now is pointless unless it is just hate. Then it is purposeful misinformation.

The blade will be fine. It'll be sterile, and it'll be $30. Pretty damned good service I'd say.

Yes. All will be well. Not a bad $30 lesson. Could have been worse. And in the end the OP gets his perfect match of a knife back. The 0560 was my first really expensive knife (now it isn't but at the time it seemed super expensive at the time). Great knife. Never getting rid of the one I have left.

^ Must be some strong coffee if a knife is a necessary tool. ;)

It was a couple years ago but I believe it was spiked hot chocolate after a 3 hour sledding session on a snow day. Thing came out of the pocket half frozen and soaked. Still operated flawless.

My BM 710 was my first "good" knife, but I have a good amount of respectable knives now but nothing feels as good as the 0560.

0560
710
Gayle Bradley
Manix 2
2 Leeks
Speedform 3500

Thought someone else said the blade may not be sterile after all, but either way I'll be fine.

I'm just basing that on what their website says. It's certainly possible that they have some marked ones around. If you prefer a marked one, I'd ask for it. All they can say is "no."

Glad to hear this one is getting taken care of by ZT -

Gratuitous picture of my own ZT0560 -
