0770 CF production question

One of the most important aspects of the 0770CF is that I doubt you'll mistake it for a "gentleman's knife". Even though it's light enough and compact enough to qualify as a gentleman's knife, it maintains the look and feel of a classic ZT folder. To me, it's a hybrid that falls somewhere between the tactical knife and gentleman's knife categories. Needless to say, I like it a lot! :)

My preorder finally showed up today, and damn, this thing is my new favorite ZT. It's like ZT made a knife for my requirements. I love the brand, love the production quality and some of the designs, but the ones I own are mostly too heavy and bulky to carry much. This one is fantastic, and mine flips much better de-assisted than my 0770 aluminum did, though I'm not sure why.

As usual, I find myself agreeing with you. Somehow it manages to look like a ZT, while being thin and light enough to be perfect for me. Love it so far . . .

I'm curious about interchangeability between the 770 and the 770CF. I like that solid backspacker and I could really use some jimping on the flipper, but I prefer the handles of the 770. Does anyone know if I would be able to do a blade/backspacer swap? I can't imagine having an issue with it, but I wanted to double check.

I have a couple of small issues with my ZT 0770CF. The lock bar is stiff and sticks a bit like excess metal. I have three 0770 and none of them are like that. I'm doubting it will get any better. Also, one of the pivot screws sticks out too far compared to the pivot screw on the other side (not flush against the CF scale). Admittedly, minor issues but since the dealer I got it from wants to deduct 20% for restocking fees I'll probably send it to ZT if it continues to bother me. I've never tried ZT warranty service before so it'd be good to give them a shot. I've asked for and gotten torsion bars in the past just as a proactive measure.

I'd send it in. Both pivot screws should sit dead flush on the CF scales. And while they've got it, they can address the sticky lock bar issue as well.

Why not blaze that trail yourself and find out . Let us know.

It's set to go to ZT tomorrow. I'll report back on fixes and duration.

The silver Thermite clip fits and looks pretty good but the screws from the Thermite wont work. Think im going to try and stonewash the Thermite clip and 0770CF screws. Guy I met on BF yesterday is going to sandblast me a 0770CF clip and screws as well so Ill get one Ill like. Also the the 0801, 0566, and Knockout clips will fit the 0770CF but they all are black already

Mine came in the mail today. I love it so far and I think it looks better in person than the pics. Kind of reminds me of the kershaw shallot. Its surprising light.

Just received the 0770cf with FedEx. Still havent opened the package :-)
And wouldn't it be nice to see how the production proces goes from designing a ZT to a final product?

Mine showed up today, it doesn't feel as small as the specs would lead you to believe, and the balance is actually quite good. Centering is good, detent is strong, lockup is solid and early.

It impresses me more than I thought it would. Not sure how much actual carry use it will see. In those cases where I'd want to carry something of it's smaller more discrete size/design, the assisted action would attract way more unwanted attention than a larger knife would, and in many of those cases it has to be under 3" as well.

Carbon fiber is very stiff stuff. I would be very surprised if the handles were flexing.
The knife has phosphor bronze washers right? I usually find that keeping the pivot tight accelerates the break in process. After 10,000 openings with a tight pivot the washers will self polish. When I get mine I think I'll leave it assisted during the break in, then removed the torsion bar. Hopefully it'll be smooth enough to perform well de-assisted. In my experience, it's kind of a rare thing to have perfect flipping smoothness (with bearing-less pivots) with perfect centering and zero bladeplay. The tolerances have to really be in your favor.

I got two in, one had a slightly wonky strip of cf on the presentation side so I'm sending it back. It's #137.

The second (#507) is absolutely perfect. Great cf, and it really does make a difference when the cf is perfect. It looks amazing.

BTW, both of these were perfectly centered, no play in any direction.

Any chance you could take pics of the different cf scales or the earlier production to the higher serial number?

I've got 0562CF #172 and the carbon fiber scale pattern is good and straight. Love the knife.

Edit: It's the 0770CF #172, not the 0562CF.
