1 belt knife to rule them all

The choice wouldn't be easy, since there's a lot of knives I like. But it would quite possibly end up being this, my current user Tommipuukko. Not the "best" knife I own, but certainly efficient and practical in the field.

Wow thats a beaut! I have a Puukko on order with Pekka Tuominen. I cannot wait. Selling off stuff to afford it.

How much did your Tommi cost you?

Its a tough choice but my Fallkniven S1 is the one I keep going back to so probably that one.

My barkie fox river. Second place probably my RC4, then the Ratmandu.
I really have to use these knives more, though, I am not getting out there nearly enough.

Thought I'd bump this up to compare with current trends. Some nice blades and leatherwork here along with a couple bigguns from Ros Arms (see their BF threads). Ros Arms has some great belt knives in case you haven't looked thru their offerings.

Holy ancient thread, batman!

My definition of "belt knife" is something that's actually comfortable to carry. That rules out my big choppers, kukris, etc, which are usually either inside a pack or lashed to the outside. In that case, I'd say my perfect belt knife right now out of the stuff I still own is a Scrap Yard Scrapper 5 LE - it's beefy enough that it can take some abuse, has a great balance due to the hidden tang handle, the mudders are super comfortable, and INFI is easy to field sharpen.

That said, I am starting to get the itch for some customs in the 5" range, and will likely be snapping up a few in the coming months, so my decision might change slightly. There are a couple minor things I am not in love with on the S5LE, but the steel and handle will be tough to beat.

Edit: forgot the pictures!

Right now my Fällkniven A-1 but i'm waiting for some Swamp Rat's so my choice might change.

Woh, woh. Man, what is that third knife down in the first picture? Never seen that SY before. Also, are you willing to part with it? :D Seriously, though.

This is an easy one for me, my Ratmandu...IMO it's the greatest knife ever put out by the Swamp !!!
I have other knives that out cut it and others that out chop it but as an all round blade this one is tops.
The only problem is that I like it so much that I kinda save it and use my other blades instead !!!! Dumb eh !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is why i ordered 3 RMD'S this way i'll be able to put 1 to real use & keep 2 as backups.

cool thread to bring back to life.. :)

Breeden SERE 5.5. No pics yet, but hopefully I'll get some soon. Big enough you can baton and chop with it, nimble enough you could dress game and notch traps, whittle fuzzies, etc.

I guess I'd pick my Fallkniven A1 , but I'd be crying to leave the rest behind ( specially my Skookum)

That's the Bird Dog LE. There was also a non-LE version offered, with black handles. They pop up on the exchange from time to time.

It's a handy bird and trout knife, but I wish it was a bit thinner and more flexible, so it could be used as a fillet knife. As it is, it has basically no flex to it.

I'm not much into bushcrafting lately, having recently retired, healing up after carpal tunnel operations on both hands, and it still being winter in Vermont.
However, assuming that "belt knife" excludes folders like the Emerson Persian I EDC in a belt pouch, I would chose my Emerson Fixed Bowie.
It is a beautiful spare piece of steel perfectly contoured for my hand with form fitting G10 scales and a wave feature-like thumb ramp that promotes quick effortless handling. The blade is 5.4 inches long overall, with 4 inches of straight razor sharp edge leading into a deep bellied skinner with a wicked up-swept point.
I don't have a photo, but there's one at the Emerson website. The knife was the collectors knife of the year for 2007 I think. But this one is dying to be used!

I hope the reference to the lord of the rings is to the book and not the crap that United Cutlery puts out.

Anyway...assuming I have my Farmer, I would go with my RC-4. It is pretty much the only belt knife I get any use out of anymore...
