1725SG2 Ti/SG2 JYD II

I have spent literally hours on line looking for pictures of this knife and here it is! :) I am 2 weeks late but better late than never. :D How friggin cool...............A San-Mai Ti JYD! Nice pics Kneedeep!

Tim...................................we need to talk Buddy! ;)

By the way, here are a couple of pics for Vassili.

Whittled a couple of hairs for you with my Ti/SG2 JYD II (factory edge).

This one I shaved twice over the same area, though I didn't go as far with the second stroke.

Wow, this is great! I did not even try to do double whittling. I guess this is kind of new standard for sharpness and I see more and more of this as a prove of excellent edge...

Hope now everybody will start making edges this sharp. Looking forward to get one of this JYDTiSG2... to try it myself.

Thanks, Vassili.

I has no luck with Tyrade. I measure sharpness as 60 grams (on the border - almost 50g) which is not enough for hair whittling, at least for my hairs - However I have pretty thin hairs.

Trick is to do this against the shells (hair is like palm tree body) - move knife from top to hair root. To my understanding this is leves of sharpness:
1. Hair start dancing - mean the edge is thin enough to bumps on the shells (50g~60g).
2. It bites in and cut hair completely (40g~50g).
3. It bites and cut but kind of diagonally and you may stop to prevent it to cut through completely. (30g~40g).
4. It whittles and gives nice curvy shave.(20g~30g).

Thanks, Vassili,

Thanks for the additional info Vassili.

I'll try a few more with the Tyrade, maybe i just got lucky. The JYD, I have no doubts about the edge, whittling the hairs was pretty much effortless.

When I have time, I'll try a few other Kershaws as well.

Great close up pictures! These knives are really coming out sharp, probably the sharpest knives I have seen leave the factory.

Tim, any idea what the corrosion resistance of SG2 is like? Just wondering if the lamination is really necessary. Clearly of will take quite an edge, would a solid SG2 blade be practical, or maybe the edge steel in a composite blade?

I have nothing but good news to report on this model so far. It kicks butt on everything I've owned

I'm really bummed! I just checked on Crocblades.com (where I pre-ordered) and they claim their delivery date has now been pushed back from November 30th to December 30th!! I was getting all excited and it now looks like it's gonna be a nother month....

this is disappointing to even those of us who snuck one early because part of the fun is hearing about other experiences. Also, and don't let me depress you, I start to fear that there could be further date bumps. These sprint runs really aren't their bread and butter at Kershaw

Don't forget, Thomas did say that a few managed to get out the door. Be proactive and either call or email a few other dealers. Someone is bound to have one or two next week.

Thomas also mentioned there were only about 700 made, and if I recall correctly, the SG2 used on this run was the extra steel from the SG2 blur run. We may not see SG2 in another folding knife for a while, so if you like JYD II's, this knife is worth the extra effort to track down.

knifeworks has these listed now, and it's not showing as a pre-order. I'm not sure if that means they are really in stock, but it's not saying Dec. 31.

Thanks for the update, its definitely on their front page. Funny how they stress that there will only be 1,000, since we know there will only be 700 or so (if that many).

BTW, Thomas had mentioned that this is one of the knives that was made specifically for us, based on feedback from here in the forum. Hope everyone gets a shot at getting one.

I just ordered one. Everything seemed normal with no notations about back order or out of stock. The bottom of the description notes "ONLY 1,000 PIECES WILL BE MADE. CALL TODAY TO RESERVE ONE BEFORE WE ARE SOLD OUT!" Hopefully this is not a pre-order thing. Maybe this is the first batch being put out. I will post when I get more info.

Check with KnifeCenter of the Internet. I ordered one the day before yesterday and I've since received an e-mail indicating that it shipped.

They're still showing as being in stock.

I called them when they opened at 8:00 am and also ordered 2 of them too! :) Thanks for the heads up acourvil! Roger said at that time he had about 20 in stock. If they were like Crocblades they probably got 30 in there shipment from Kershaw too. Wont last long at this rate!

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas! :D

Hey Jim.... you should have at least 1 of them by tomorrow... prepare to fondle all weekend ;) As for the rest on quantity. I was at the Kershaw sale early this morning. They had a few XXX SG2 JYD's... maybe 10-15. (they also had the same amount of Tyrades. and yes I was drooling because I couldn't find anything wrong with many of them) Anyway, I asked Thomas about quantity on the JYD. He answered "If even that" when I mentioned the 700 estimate. So, these are going to be VERY limited. I'll bet they are just filling initial orders then stopping. <500? we'll know soon enough, I guess. Oh, I didn't plan on spending any money but I just had to buy one of the JYD's for $99. can't beat that. They had boxes full of regular JYD2s, black and olive.
