Well, mine came in the mail yesterday. Don't even ask why I wasn't on here posting immediately after!
Quick review:
This knife was engineered to impress. In the looks department, it's a silent killer. It's sleek without actually being flashy, and the bead-blasted finish is just perfect. It almost looks like the blade and the handle are the same metal; the color is that close. F&F is terrific, enough that I have to think that there was some hand-fitting on this one. The only visual cue that this is a production knife is the Kershaw logo on the blade.
The knife feels solid but still light for its size, as expected. The new width allows you to really wrap your hand around it; I feel like it's anchored, unmovable. Some basic torsion testing shows that even if you stuck the blade into a piece of plywood, you'd have to twist pretty hard to disengage the lock. The clip keeps your index finger at a safe angle, making it about as hard to accidentally unlock as the G-10 version. Lock-up is extremely solid, regardless of blade speed. My wife laughed at me as I determinedly gave it the spine whack test, as if to say, "if you can make that fail, you
deserve to lose a finger." This lock is
solid. And that's good, because...
This blade is
so sharp that I really feel justified using the term
scary to describe it. It has cut everything I put up against it with
no discernible resistance. You could shave your face with it. I can believe that this is 62-3 HRC. I don't have any safe queens, so it's going to get used. I'm pretty excited about putting SG2 through its paces.
Well, time for more yard work. I'll try to take some pictures later. My heart goes out to you guys who are still waiting.
