Look at the photos in my post #186, in that photo you will see the small plate which is part of this grinder design. YOu will merely use this plate in assembly to bolt down the grinder.
THe large plate (Which is not part of the grinder design) is just what I plan to use to assemble my build.

In keeping the greatest flexibility of design, I say leave the arm long for both options.
The end user can see the possibilities of both designs and choose for themselves based upon the supplies they have available to them.

If they find that it is too long, they can always hacksaw it off pretty easily.

Seeing Adam-Micheal name here makes me think MAP ARM !

As I look at this design, I have pictured doubling up on the parts that create the tooling arm receiver tube to create a second parallel tooling arm to the left of the origional.

On the MAP ARM, how far apart do these two channels have to be?

The receivers are about 1" apart.

I am looking into building a grinder and was wondering if I over looked the plans or cad drawing everyone has been talking about in this thread? I would like to get some measurements so I could try to build a grinder like this. Went to Don Fogg’s site but could not find the plans that was talked about early in this post.
Thanks
Cecil

So how is the grinder pans and build going? I know its a busy week with christmas and all but was just curious.

Speaking of christmas I pray you all have a merry christmas!

Good news, and bad.
I found out my laser guys laser only can do 3/8 of an inch thick and this is designed in 1/2 thick. So my waterjet cutter guy (Different guy) said he can do it but he is backed up a few weeks. So looks like I will not be putting it together during the holidays like I had thought.
Will keep you guys posted.

I was wondering if anyone know if it would be a good or bad idea to make a grinder similar to the KMG out of aluminum? I have to work out on the back patio due to very limited space and carry my stuff outside to work, and the lighter the better.

aluminum works just fine, i have built these kmg clones in steel, stainless, and aluminum, the aluminum version is lighter to move in and out of the storage room, still heavy with motor and base plate attached.

Lurker here.... I feel like I know you all

I found more info on Wil Hurley. I did send a pm to a few of you, but I want to let everyone know because there may be a few lurkers that that need the info as well. I'll share any info I have privately, as well as pictures of him. I feel confident that he is lurking here under a pseudo name, and I refuse to enlighten him as to what I know.

I am not real sure as this is some scrap that my Water jet provider had laying around.
It does have swirl machine marks that are pretty large in diameter. So either blanchard ground or maybe fly cut from larger stock not really sure.
It appears my WJ provider was able to nest all the above parts into a 25" x 14 Inch rectangle. I am making this grinder from 1/2 ALuminum.
Photos coming soon.
