2007 Forum Knife Pattern Vote

Hey folks,
I think I'll send an e-mail off to Canal Street tomorrow to see where they stand on these knife suggestions, maybe we can move things along a little here. It would be nice to get this vote started, especially since we've got a purple handled 110 in the mix (aquired through private negotiations):D  . I'll let you know how things are progressing here once I get a reply.

Again, I would like to see a 3 7/8" stockman, clip, spay amd sheepsfoot blades of ATS-34. Lets use nice scales of either ivory or stag. Match strike nail nick is an interesting option with round bolsters.

Hi, I'm not sure where I should post this so if it belongs somewhere else please feel free to move it.

About two weeks ago I hit a Nauga,(I thought they were all hibernating:confused: ) anyway turns out it was a mother, or a father,(I'm still not sure how to tell the difference), so like I was sayin' I hit it, squished it flat as a tanneau cover for a '65 Ford Ranchero if ya know what I mean?

So when I get out to see what I hit I see 6 of 'em, little ones, couldn't of been more than 6 inches long, 'bout four week old as close as I can figure.

Fast forward to today, they're runnin' all over the house,(at least I think they're runnin'), leavin' little pleather pellets behind, damn house smells like a ......well ya get the idea.

Well I guess what I'm tryin' to find out is.... what do they eat, how old do they have ta be before I can mate 'em,(not me:rolleyes: , with each other so I can sell the skins)?

One last thing, I think one bit me last night, do I need to get any special shots now?

TJ aniously awaiting your expert advice in this area.

Thanks in advance for any help folks.

my wife laughed...said you can feed 'em wheat or rye or oats or barley or lots and lots of polyester!!

Find a nice old Leisure Suit, preferably lemon yellow or baby blue, and wear it so they snuggle up to you and they will feel well loved since you took their mommy away.

Well, it sounds like the little kids are doing just fine. If you find that they become stressed due to the loss of their parental unit, we always found that giving them a single peanut M&M would distract them, and then they would also be calmed by the chemicals the chocolate. The peanut provides them with enough protein to reinforce their CNS so that they don't do any serious harm to their Nauga skin, which could lessen the value of their skin later down the road when it becomes time to utilize it.

Keep up the good work. I see that others have provided information regarding what to feed them. They also enjoy rolling around in grass hay, much like a bunny rabbit would. So you might try that if you are not already offering it to them. Naugas like to burrow under the hay when it gets a little chilly.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions about your cute little Naugas. It sounds like you might have the start of a new business venture on your hands. If you decide to raise Naugas, let me know and I can send you plans for building a very functional structure to house the Naugas.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I was busy practicing my birthday celebration, which is today! Yippee!

What is a Nauga?

A Nauga is a critter whose hide is used much the same as cow leather and other animals leathers are. Because the Nauga is not as large as a cow, one rarely seems them when driving down the road. Naugas are confined in structures so that they don't wander off and get run over by a car.

The poor Naugas discussed here must have been wild Naugas that had escaped from a Nauga farm a while back and there is probably a small Nauga colony in that area.

My uncles has eaten Nauga before. He said it DOESN'T taste like chicken. Tastes like Nauga, I guess.

Having grown up on a Nauga farm, we had Nauga all the time. Did you ever see Forrest Gump? Well, if you remember Bubba Gump and all the ways he said he could prepare shrimp- just substitute Nauga for shrimp.

You uncle is right - it does not taste like chicken. I'd say it is a little more gamey. Maybe like rabbit, but probably jackalope would be closer to the taste of Nauga. It is best if you slow-cook it and use lots of seasonings. One of my favorites was to cut it up in small pieces and cook it up for fajitas. Really yummy. Wrap that stuff up in a soft tortilla and it was real fine!

Now I have a hankering for some Nauga fajitas. We sold our farm a while back and I don't know if the family we sold it to is still in business. The demand for Nauga has gone down and many Nauga farms were going under. I sure would like to get some nice young Nauga meat.

Hey,T...... let me know when those young'uns of yours are old enough to be sold for meat, if you aren't preparing to go into the Nauga business, that it.

Hey T.

I forgot to answer a couple of your questions.

1. No, you don't need any shots. Naugas has a natural resistance to rabies and lyme disease. And the babies you got were probably just weaned off the mother, so they would have her antibodies in their system.

2. Naugas, being small critters, are able to begin mating as early at 4 months. It takes that long for the sexual and reproduction organs to mature. It isn't always easy to tell the sexes apart, and I really don't feel comfortable discussing that part in this forum. You can PM and I will tell you how to determine sex. There is a procedure which you will need to perform, and maybe your wife will need to assist you.

The litters are usually between 6-8 puppettes. They are born with little to no hair and will remain that way for the rest of their lives. You might want to start applying something to soften their skin, such as a mink oil. Bear in mind that the Naugas may react a little when they first smell the mink oil, as minks are a natural enemy of the Naugas. Instinct will kick in. Sometimes it helps to add a little vanilla oil to the mink oil and that will help neutralize the odor of the mink.

That should do it! PM me,T. if you want that info on sex determination.

Found this Reese Bose while browsing around knife sites. It seems he made some of these for the Lake Michigan Region Knife Club. I figure if we all start saving our pennies (and dollars) now, we will have a perfect candidate for the 2008 BFC knife. If the guys at LMRKC can talk Reese into making their club knife, us guys here at BFC should be able to do the same. After all, we deserve nothing less. :D

[ Meanwhile, back at the 2007 BFC Knife ranch... ]

Anybody else up for settling on pattern (at least) for the 2007 knife?

It's pretty clear the majority is for the 3 blade stockman w/punch, correct? I have no problem with this, I just want to get it settled, as what we get here will affect other knife purchases, if you know what I mean.

(Read: if we're not going to get the above knife let me know so I can get one that I've got my eye on. :)

No, absolutly not. It looks like the three blade stockman is the most frequently requested with Clip, Sheepsfoot and Spay blades.

Jay

I'd be up for a 3 blade stockman + punch. I have one in my collection. It's a Wards (made in USA) with yellow jigged bone scales & 2 springs. Very pocket worn & almost no snap left. I wouldn't mind another of this pattern.

But, I'd prefer a Canittler or a wharncliff whittler. ;)
