2007 Forum Knife Pattern Vote

Nice custom, but I definitely prefer a traditional pattern! (I know, I know. . . . ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!)
Hey Eric, have you done an updated count??

TSL (the stockman lobby), aka Charlie.

To be honest I haven't a clue what to suggest, apart from please don't make it too expensive! I'm saving for my wedding and I really can't justify a massive outlay.....my bones can only take so much punishement:(

I do like bone or wood (dark) scales, and 1 or 2 blades but apart from that I'm easy (as the actress said to the casting director!)

This is my Queen classic red bone whittler.

That's a nice looking knife. For me, the three-blade design is very practical, thus my liking for this style, whether it's a "whittler" or a stockman. I have about 20 stockman knives, and I carry them all. The spey and sheepfoot blades get a considerable amount of use. Sheepfoot is great for opening stuff when you don't want a pointed blade. Think clam pack for example. Spey blade makes a nice roll cut. Clip point is practical for all kinds of applications. I'll buy a BF stockman if it has a punch, but I still like my three blades.

Just my 2 cents. It's not that I dislike other patterns; it's just that I get more utility out of the stockman design. As for materials, I'm always up for stag or bone or something even fancier. And I wouldn't mind seeing some premium steel like D2 or ATS-34.

Sorry, don't know if this is the right section to ask the question, but how does one buy one of these (when it is all sorted) knives?
As a newbie I, obviously haven't a clue, and although I don't fancy collecting commemorative knives I will make an exception in this case; this forum is very friendly and informative I would like to add a knife from the forum to my collection.

Let's stick with Canal Street since he (ea42) lives close and since they (CS) did such a great job for us on the 2006 ring knives.

This year I would like us to think about sending #1 to jackknife as our gift (as we did with Spark last year.)

If you have no intention please do not vote. If you don't have patience do not order or at least do not hassle the person doing this for us.

No matter what pattern we choose, I am in for 2 at least. (My dad is gonna want one ;))

Responses to Gus:

Canal Street is cool with me. I don't have a Canal Street knife. I'm also down for throwing in a few extra bucks and sending a gift knife.

If some sort of three blade design gets picked, I'm in like flint for one knife. If not, my choice'll be based on whether or not the design is something I think I'd actually carry and use.

As for patience, I just ordered a Bill Siegle custom I won't see for 8 months. Might as well wait for something else.

Lee,

Eventually this will turn into a vote on a pattern. Once that's "agreed" on, a deal will be worked up with the manufacturer. It will be several months. Since we haven't finalized even the pattern, much less the steel or handle material, it's impossible to say how much it'll be, but I'm sure there will be a strong desire to keep it under $100 US, otherwise many of us would pull out, too.

Sam - Thanks for that. I thought it might take a while as it is hard to please everyone all of the time. As long as it isn't too expensive I'll go for one (whatever its final design) when it is ready.:)

#1 for jacknife gets my vote! There are several worthy characters around here; I guess we are headed for the "Annual Number One BF Knife Award!!
Very cool!

Sam, I passed on the last round of ringers. Posts here suggest those were A2 (which is very cool). Correct? Did those come in under $100?[/url]
Yes (I'm pretty sure) on A2, not sure of the price: I didn't get in on it either. I do know it was discussed at length and there was a goal to keep it reasonably affordable.

I haven't read all the posts and I didn't get in on the 2006 ring opener (rats!), but I could go for a whittler first and stockman second.

Whittlers just scream special.

Dean

We should get in well under 100 unless things get too fancy. I think the goal is to have as many participating as possible.

Folks just need to understand that we are ordering a knife to be made for us and "they'll be ready when they are ready". :D.

It does not matter how long you have been around here if your have an interest you are more than welcome to order. Here is how it works.

We "hem and haw" about the pattern and details, then contact Canal Street to get a price. Then we collect the cash, send some money to Canal Street, sit back, relax and wait for them. :)

It was A2, I think Gus picked that steel out. Final price was $78. That included the price of the knife, chip in for Sparks to get a knife, shipping and insurance.

Well how about a Sowbelly pattern in Stag, Abalone or Pearl !!! I like the idea of being a little unique when someone ask about my forum knife as I hold it in my hand..And don't forget Great Eastern Cutlery might just be a great company to approach as well...

I should be hearing back from Joe or Wally tomorrow re. the pattern choices and handle materials available. I did hear some reports that stag has been re-embargoed and the price of scale material has gone up 1000% due to demand for what's left, but we'll see what Canal Street has to say. I don't know how that translates to the price of a single knife anyway. I'll post as soon as I hear anything.

Eric

If the price isn't too high I'd like to get in on this too and cast my vote for a 3 blade stockman in stag.

That's a great price given the steel and the fact that it included extra for the gift knife. Was there some discount involved because of the bulk order?

I'd be in for either:
1. Stag handled stockman, either punch or spey along with main clip and sheepsfoot blades.

2. Stag handled Dr. pattern with spatula.

Either 1. or 2. needs to be in a better than 420HC blade. I'd accept ATS-34 as the minimum steel, but would prefer a straight up carbon steel.

edited to add: I would prefer to not have a big honkin' "billboard" on the blade. I was a bit turned off with the pics I saw of the 2006 knife.

If girlies are allowed in on this, I would be interested in a buy-in for the 2007 knife.

Judy

Judy, Judy, Judy,:D

Of coarse the Girlies are most Welcome.. Please cast your vote for the traditional pocket knife pattern, scales, and type of steel you prefer. Most of the members have 2-3 choices, but whatever, you Vote they way you want!

BTW, Nice to see you here!
