I realized that I forgot to weigh in on the tang stamp. Not a deal breaker by any stretch but I think it should be Queen. Queen is making them, S&M is for all intent and purpose a line name, S&M isn't making it. Just my 2 cents, and like I said, ain't a deal breaker regardless.

I put in my thoughts on having bone and no stag because of the spotty quality of stag latly, but if someone is being good enough to donate it, AND thickness it/AND size it, well shoot, I ain't turning that down. I'd also go along with booting an extra 5 or 10 bucks into the knife price to give the donator a free one. Thats alot of work and material, I think they deserve it.

The bolster designs coming out look great too guys, great work.

Looking forward to it now :D Oh and yeah I'm still in for 1 anyway, heh.

Another vote for ATS-34. I doubt we will win the majority as it stands, but since it's a vote...what the hell.

I definitely like the stag idea, especially since someone is taking the time to ensure the quality/fit/finish of each set. To the one donating---well done!

The rest of it seems to be working itself out. I could live with most any of the other options. I do like the stamp idea, but that is probably dead at this point. Great idea though.

Hat is off to the planners...this is just the beginning!

ATS-34 and D2 steels are equal but different IMO.

My reaction is that your fervor and requests are admired and appreciated...but the numbers don't lie....many more people wanted D2 or had no opinion than those that wanted ATS-34....Gus and I have no problem with it either way.

Best Regards,

I DO think we will go with the stamped bolster, don't know why you think it is a dead idea......just more expensive....but with the amount of knives we may wind up doing, it isn't THAT much more expensive.

BTW, the long pull for the wharncliffe blade is on the quote write up.

Thank you to the donor of the stag for your time workmanship and material. I truly look forward to this years forum knife.

P.S. I also hope the bolster will be stamped even if it adds to the price.

This is getting exciting. :)

This knife is going to be sexy. The news on the donated stag sat me straight up in my chair. I went from wanting one of these to wanting two.

I mentioned in an earlier thread about maybe using Roman Numerals instead of the hum drum 2009, I've added pic below, maybe it wouldn't have to be in such bold lettering though. Most date recognition on knives tends to be regular date style, just thought with the Roman numerals it adds more class to the knife.

Syn's got a great idea with donating a knife to the stag donor, small price to pay for such a generous contribution:thumbup:

Russell, that's a cool idea;)

As regards long pull on the Wharncliffe: the S&M Barehead English Jack (4.25")from the XVIII series has a giant sheepsfoot master blade, nearly a Wharncliffe and this has a very nice long pull starting from the tang.Depends if the pulls are all on the same side, the Wharncliffe on the CASE Mini Trapper has them on the same side but the Wharncliffe's has to be set at the 'nose' of the blade to make it accesible. And, I think Roman numerals rather than Arabic look better on the bolster.

I like 2009, that looks like too many letters.

Our stag benefactor was already hard at work last night and early this morning.
Here are some of the slabs that will be heading to Queen.

Excuse the dark pics they were shot at a kitchen table quickly this morning, but they will give you the idea of the quality that will be delivered.

Enough of this torture! Just tell me where to send the check - fill in the amount when you know it!

Along those lines, Steven got the final proposal from Queen last night.

I have to figure out how much they are going to charge to ship them to me and how much it is going to cost to mail them out insured, add in the cost of the "award" knife and come up with the final cost.

(In between my real job, and the huge tree I have to cut up and stack over the weekend ;).

In the meantime if anyone wants to help spread the word in the forums to folks you think might be interested please feel free to do so.

Gorgeous Stag, I can't wait, I'm so lookin' forward to this Forum knife, I think it'll be the best one yet.

WHOOOA Gus  Now that is some of the most wonderful gnarly looking STAG this old boy has laid eyes on in a while! I can't stop chicken eyeing this batch of scales. :)

And while I am thinking about it, are we still considering shields? Cause IMHO, covering up even a small amount of this precious STAG would be a sin, not to mention the cost effectiveness of dropping the shields out of the mix altogether.

Also, would one of you fine folksy fellows kindly post the address where to send in payment, please?

I would definitely like to get one of these. I am in regardless of the details.

Thank you Steven and Gus for all the work you have put into this project. And an extra thank you to the donor of the stag. It is a very generous offering.

Thank you,

Che Youmans

Gus,

Oh my Goodness! Staglicious! I too can't wait to see/GET the finished product.

Thanks again to you and Steve, and "The Donor"! ;)
