2010 Forum Knife - Mission Statement

I don't know that I have nearly enough time on BladeForums to have much of a vote, but I agree that ebony or even micarta would be nice. (No disrespect at all to the phantom stag donor; that's a great gesture.) OTOH, the vast majority of those writing opinions in this thread seem to be in favor of stag.

To me, this is nearly perfect. (See above comments about scale material. :))

I would be very happy with that. Nice bone color.

just to tease! and cause i like this Knife:thumbup: Wearing a slightly revised arched stamp and roman numerals on the bolster, and the original bone scales... Still like the ebony but i think we're out numbered on that:)
cheers

"roll that beautiful knife footage!"

Sorry I meant to put the pic in. I would love this knife.

In regards to this new forum knife, I would like to say that Ivan shows absolute mastery in thought as to the detail and the whole gestalt. I wish we could just turn it over to him! Not to belittle the opinion of anyone else; They all seem to show valid points (all except that pesky little dotcom thingy). I hope a possible shield doesn't have anything on it.

Imagine that knife with stag. Wouldn't really need a shield or a end bolster.

Imagine that knife with stag for <$100, and imagination is the only place you're likely to see it.;)

Yeah, nothing like tradition in the Traditional Forums to throw a burr in your blanket.

Listen up, children(including tongueriver)....every knife has had BFC.....if you don't want it, fine...speak your minds and make it not so....and pretend that you care for tradition.

I'm out.....done....if you all screw it up, I'll give the knife to the first person in need that I can find...and laugh.

At least Gus and I were able to keep you from doing it last year, it was a very serious struggle at that.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Steven, you are being an ass. Take a look at your 2008 knife. Notice the marking on the blade?

"Blade Forums 08"

Notice the conspicuous absence of ".com"? I oppose neither "Blade Forums" nor "BFC" but strenuously object to the dotcom. As always in this project, the majority will rule. Like it or lump it.

Can't find it, will take you at your word for it.

Will reciprocate the kind words at soonest opportunity....this ain't the place.

...of course the majority will rule...with Charlie's tender attention of course.;)

No Regards for you,

+1

Could not agree more.

Glad we got that out of the way, now maybe we can get on with some sort of poll for the rest of us...

I too would like to see a Blade Forums stamp without the .com. I would also like to see a shield if possible.

Might we be driving the price too high if we have both a custom tang stamp and a bolster stamp made up?

Time for a pattern poll?

Then we can clear up the details of stamps, shields and who makes it etc, but now I think we could vote on the pattern.

Some very good ideas have been put forward here and Ivan has given us plenty to look at in an extremely useful way.

Barehead Harness Jack,Harness Jack, Teardrop Jack or English Jack are my preferences, others may want something completely different, shall we see?

I'm seeing a lot of love for the harness jack. I have a GEC Harness Jack. It's a great knife but there's not a whole lot of use to be had for the awl. Would anyone be interested in replacing the awl with a cap lifter/screwdriver (like this pic)?

Willgoy, I think Charlie wants to wait till afer the shot show (this week) before he does any polling. He wants to talk to the manufacturers first to see what they have to offer, and they're all pretty busy during the show.

I use awls all the time. granted a bottle opener would be awesome but I don't know if it's feasible based on the fact that it's a short order run and we have to rely on stock blade styles from the manufacturers.

Some of the cutleries may have a bottle opener blade for a utility pattern, but it might be too special for a knife that will appeal to the majority here. I am thinking the same idea holds for a punch or awl. Some would like one but most would rather have another blade.

Now everyone is chomping to make a decision, so let's narrow the field as has been suggested.
Let's try an experiment here!! This is hypothetical, but may turn out to be reasonable.
Let's assume a two blade Jack knife!! Now this is not the last word, but for a special factory order, it is likely an economical choice, and the variety of possibilities is huge.
Let's also assume a larger knife also, 3 5/8" to 4 1/4". We've done smaller knives, and next year we can do an even smaller one, but this year, let's make it big!
And let's do it factory by factory!! We will start with the patterns Queen makes, and pick our top two. I will post pictures of handle patterns that I have from them, and welcome others to do the same. Add specs for clarity, please. When we are done with Queen, we'll move on the Great Eastern, and finally to Canal Street. Reverse alphabetical order with no preference.
I will post pics in a separate post.

True. I don't know all the logistics involved with getting something like that together. I was just thinking that Queen has made scout patterns with that tool on them in the past. Maybe they would have some still around to add onto a jack like that.
Just a thought. :)

The Queen teardrop, an older traditional pattern, not done by any cutleries that I know of except Queen, in more modern times. Yes, it's the Harness Jack without the Harness(punch):D
At 1/16" over 3 3/4" is is a handful of knife. It is made with halfstops.

Here is Queen's version of an equal end knife. They use it for a 4 blade utility knife, a 3 blade cattle knife, and a 2 blade Harness Jack, and some years ago, they made a Moose for the Black Box Winchester purveyor.
I like the Moose, and would also like to see it as a 2 blade Jack, with two full length blades on one end, a spear and a clip!

Keep in mind the handle materials and shield choices are many. Even the bolsters on this knife can vary; there are three different ones in this pic!
3 5/8" long. GEC's EE knife is a lot longer, but this knife is reasonably large.
