Please keep posting this educational knowladge, so we have a more realistic way of knowing how much stuff will cost.

So what are the extra cost for nail nick, and blade configs ect

For that we wouldn't know until the information was requested from the mfg. It mostly depends upon tooling requirements(ie...do they have the necessary tooling, or does it have to be purchased/built?)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I'm in for one or two.

Although I have a suggestion in mind, I need to visit several websites to see what the current offerings are. As mentioned in another thread. . . .

Find a pattern they actually do or have done....because just about NO manufacturer wants to do 100 knives or so in a limited run, and those that will.....WILL NOT prototype a new pattern for 100 knives or so....unless we are willing to pay them around $300.00 a knife.

Sage advice. :D

Charlie, Mikeymoto and ea42 Thanks for taking this on! It seems like no small task. My vote for patterns are:
GEC: Muskrat, Improved Muskrat, Cuban, Stockman or Scout
Queen:Copperhead (but with longer clip on blade), Queen City English Jack (nice and big) or a 4" Gunstock (do these exist? if not it may be too expensive)
Canal Street: not real familiar, youguys will have to "educate" me.

Steel: Whatever, preferably carbon, but a higher quality stainless like ATS-34 is good too.

Forgot to mention, I'm in for one of whatever gets made, and would love it to be in the 4" range

S&M have a large and varied selection of patterns with different blades configs

Thanks. I'm not up on the GEC line and haven't ogled Canal Street's offerings in some time.

*off to drool*

I have added links For Queen, Canal Street, and Great Eastern to the Original Post!

There, you will find some interesting ideas, and discover what each cutlery can offer us!!

I am in for a couple of whatever we decide.

For now I'll toss a thought in for a harness jack or stockman with leather punch.

Thanks to you three for stepping up. We are in great hands for this project.

Thanks guys for running this psychotic, schizophrenic...thing. I think nothing says class more than you guys accepting the mantle, than a equal end jack with black handle scales (either micarta or ebony) and a nice spearpoint blade. Now if we can get an oval shield on that thing...whoa baby!

Bone handles and carbon steel would be the ticket. GEC has some very nice looking bone options. Their Beaver Pond bone looked nice as did the natural bone.

Great Idea! The base knife is inexpensive enough we could have a real nice and unique knife for a reasonable price.

That is what I was shooting for! It is inexpensive enough as it is that upgrading a few parts, aka blade and handle, wouldn't cost a fortune. It could be super nice and still fall under the price tag. Think of it this way. The KnutBuster (I'm not sure how to spell it exactly...)pattern here on BF is a huge hit, sadly it is a full custom and will take a good amount of time to get, along with a price tag that may be out of people budget. This is as close to that as we can get, without killin ourselves over the price.

I would be very partial to a nice 2 bladed Texas Jack or a nice large single bladed back pocket trapper.......

Thanks again
Steven
I like this idea, either of the two patterns would be great. AS all of the others have said thanks for taking on this overwhelming (for me anyway) task!

Either a fancy sodbuster or a nice Peanut. Something BIG or something small. Bone or nice wood, either is fine with me.

No plastic though. I detest plastic.

This is the same frame as their moose, but with two clips they call it a bighorn moose (BHM)

How about a teardrop (3-7/8") harness jack, spear and punch, of 1095 or ATS-34. Queen (S&M) has got all the parts (tooling) for this one, but not all on the same knife, so it would be unique for us BFers.

This is an interesting knife!
042276 - Swell Center Jack

3-7/8" Two blade Swell Center Jack. Large spear with cut swedge extending to tip and long pull nail mark. Secondary pen blade with hand swedging and crescent nail mark.
(They might be able to put a Clip blade in it as an alternate. I wonder if it has one or two backsprings?)

And, here's an image of a teardrop Harness Jack, as described above;

I have forgotten how long it is. I will look into that.
