2011 mini knife KITH

Xander, nice job, that looks awesome. It looks like you went for a tough one and pulled it off beautifully!

Thanx Daniel! It sure was a tough one, but I planned and tested every step and part. I think it includes 10-15 guard attempts, 2 pommels almost completed, parts glued to my fingers countless times, fingers glued together or to other random stuff (I swear I was just scratching my nose...), and three attempts at coloring the blade/guard/pommel.

I started hammering out an old needle file today to start another mini for fun along with the hatchet and axe I have waiting to get redone.

Cheers

Cool, that makes me think of Ricky in Trailer Park Boys when he glues a rag to his nose and a model truck to his hand, lol.

I have been saving my old files for forging, my Nicholson needle files will make some nice minis.

Ok guys, time is ticking away. The deadline is almost here! Please make sure you send me an email with address confirmation and stating you are done and ready to ship. No deadline extensions this time, we have several makers done. Daniel, you get your shipping boxes yet? Mike, I hope you got yours done or close to it, it sure is a pretty blade! Charles, you get your back frm sharpening yet? Ryan, I need an address confirmation please. Stacy, your good to go!

Hope all is well, and everyone is as excited as I am to get these shipped out!

Richard assured me that it went out in the mail today, along with material for future mini handles. He didn't try shaving with it, but I'm sure it's sharp. I fully expect to have it here by Friday!

Cool, good to know Charles. Ryan, I got your email, thanks. Things are looking good so far!

The D guard is damascus, as is the pommel. The blade is cable damascus
Overall is 3.8 inches
Thickness is .080
zero ground to crazy sharp.
Handle is Honey Locust Burl as will the scabbard be.

My first mini....Only my 8th completed...I am not to fond of making mini's lol.....tough stuff!
What ya guys think?

Argh Matie! Thar be Pirates about (Sorry that was lame).... very nice Mike i like it!

Wow that is nice Mike! It looks super sharp in more ways than one.

Well everyone, today is the day! Please make sure you are finished today and we can get going on the name draw.

Mike Davis, I sure would hate to exclude one maker in such a small group, so hurry up! Shoot me an email if you have any questions or concerns. I think I speak for the group when I say we dont mind one more day for such a nice knife. So get it done! :-) Everyone wants to get/give their mini.

I assure you guys, it will be finished tonight....It will be boxed and ready to ship in the morning.....Where do you guys find boxes that small:P. Seriously, it will be done tonight..I have the wood for the scabbard cut and was going to finish it last night but i sliced my finger open and got pissed and called it a night lol. I will post pics by midnight.

I did receive my knives back from Richard and he did an excellent job of sharpening it. Much better than I could have done on such a small knife. I have a hard enough time getting my big knives sharp, I didn't want to risk deforming this one on the final step of sharpening. It is razor sharp, and the shiny edge completes the knife just as I hoped it would. I didn't have my camera at work today, but I will take it in tomorrow when I feed the fish and take some pictures. Right afterward I will put it in the box and await the drawing.

Ok i can officially say i am finished! I cannot say it is boxed...yet :)

This just might have been the toughest knife to date. It is super sharp and ready to go. The scabbard has about a 1/32-1/64 gap in between it and the guard...Couldn't get 100% tight lockup on it...Not sure why. Stats are as follows
Blade :Cable damascus
Guard/Buttcap:1080/15n20 damascus
Handle/Scabbard: Honey Locust Burl
This was fun and presented a new type of challenges and i hope to carry some of the knowledge i learned from this into making the big boys. Thanks all!

WOOHOO!!!!!! Everyone is done! First of all I want to extend a very big THANK YOU to everyone for their participation, and to the man behind the curtain who helped me with quite a bit of the details in running this KITH. Stacy, stand up and take a bow! Thank you sir, you have been a big part of making this a successful KITH thus far.

Now I have the fun of drawing names. The only inspection of names will be to make sure that no one draws their own name. I should have everything done by Tuesday the 5th, but as I stated in the opening page, I have an absolute deadline of the 10th, just incase something happens.

Again, THANK YOU EVERYONE! Even those who had hopes but were unable to complete a knife, you helped get the ball rolling by showing interest.

Have a safe an fun 4th of July weekend!

Thank you Xander. This has been a fun KITH.
After seeing the final minis, I suspect next year there will be more participants.

Speaking of KITHs, it is almost time to start up the Christmas KITH. Look for a new thread soon.

Very Cool mini knives. I am curious though, what is a KITH?

knife In The Hat. Its kinda like a "white elephant" or secret santa type event. Each maker draws a name to give their knife to, but they don't know who they will receive from. Check out the first page for the rules.
