This very unusual pattern jack knife has struck me as quite wonderful. It almost seems haphazard -very funky knife in an excellent way! It is the only jack knife mentioned so far that could contend with a... SOWBELLY ;)

It seems the congress jack has struck a chord with some -but it's just not that different from existing production models to warrant a notch in the Forum Knife belt, imo. No offense intended, gentlemen and ladies!

A mariner's / rigger's knife. Not seen this pattern suggested before?
Charlie's gorgeous stockman.
A wharncliffe trapper. Must be a true wharncliffe (the Bose's style is about perfect) not a lambsfoot masquerading as a wharnie.
A trick lock á la Weidmannsheil (press down the secondary blade to unlock the main).
Some form of tool/gadget knife like last year's EO with screwdriver.

I'd like to see a GEC Bull Nose Work knife in O-1 Steel and Stag Scales. This should be do-able for under a $100 and really who doesn't love a sodbuster with stag scales.

Oh, HERE's an idea. How about a SCOUT KNIFE!!?? Have we done one of those before?

That would be both traditional and more useful than "just a knife." (not that we necessarily need it...) My recent experience with the poor quality Remington re-issue scout knife has me wanting a high quality one...

It was the photo of the stockman w/punch that got me thinking along this line. If it's going to be two layers, ala stockman, why not use the heck out of both backsprings and have other tools? Does anyone still make a scout knife?

I would pay for a high quality and USEFUL Scout knife in the spirit of the old Ulsters

Regarding usefulness, I would love to see a traditional Scout recontextualized to be useful in today's world with a blade replacement.

Replace the leather punch with folding scissors!

I camp. I camp a lot and in all 4 seasons. The leather punch made sense for campers in the 1930s when most straps were made of leather. For today's campers, straps are nylon webbing and field repairs means sewing. For this task, small but tough scissors are an essential part of any prepared backpacking kit.

I *LOVE* the scout/camper pattern and would love to see a relevant and more tradiotional (in the US-centric meaning) option to the SAK. By swapping the leather punch for scissors, the classic scout/camper pattern would move from quaint historical memory to something of incredible utility.

Scissors are traditional and have been on several old knives. No need to shy away from them on that count. But putting them on a traditional camper would push the envelope and could revive a great American classic.

Had another idea, this thread is intoxicating.

Don't believe there's been a single blade knife YET as a Forum order. Let's think very classic: how about a Lambsfoot blade in the English style, Barehead with Rat-tail bolster around 3.75" 4pins and could have a shield if wanted. Materials, wood such as Coca, Zebra or Ebony. Or deeply jigged bone in a nice green colour like Bedford (or is it Bradford?) Green. Toffee colour be fine too or a decent dark red. That's it, time up orders in:D:D:cool:

Interesting idea. A single blade could allow us to put more money into steel and handle material as well. (not a vote)

I second your vote. I think what ever is picked should be a design which can't be easily found made by a score of different knife makers, and a quality rigger's knife with a spike and blade and nice bone scales fits that bill.

I know I sound like a broken record, but can not let this go bye without mentioning a sunfish. :D. I also like the idea of uniqueness.

Whatever is chosen, I would go for any pattern in natural handle materials. At least one and would most likley opt out of man made handle materials including plastics.

Thank you guys for doing all this.

Another vote for a Stockman. Somewhere around 3 1/2, maybe a little larger, closed length. 440C is good, but 1095 would be nice too.

I think it's great checking out these great ideas.

That would be me. I've had a couple of sodbusters, and I've never warmed up to them.

Whew! I was beginning to think I'd have to do that myself. Thanks, Gus.

I was wondering who would be the first to mention either this or the Elephant's Toenail.

I love the idea of a Scout but would prefer not to have a bail (they always looks so cheap and cheesy to me). The Congress Jack is a strong second with other jack patterns in third. Sodbusters and Shadows leave me cold.

I'm not opposed to a Stockman but feel that we've been there and done that. To recap past years' efforts for those of you wanting to not repeat yourselves:

2006 Stag Ring opener
2007 Mammoth Ivory Canittler
2008 Stag Medium Stockman
2009 Stag Barlow
2010 Ebony Moose/Railsplitter
2011 Bone EO Jack

This is helpful to new folks like me, who just arrived. This would be best done in another thread, but anyone have pics of each of these?
