I'm in for 1 as-is at $125+ but dropping it to a single blade wouldn't break my heart.

I'm in for 1, but could be pressured into buying a second :p
Please keep it as is. Do I need to pay in advance or place a deposit?

I'm definitely in for 1...

Is this the exact design that everyone wanted?

I thought a lot of us had discussed the fact that we wanted to keep the blades low in the handle. The blades in that diagram look very proud and wide. The main improvement over other wharncliffe trappers I thought we were trying to make was about sinking the blades as far as possible.

I was thinking more of a california or turkish blade, and then a slim executive whittler style wharncliffe.

I am not going to vote for anything yet. I hope we can make some changes (if they are wanted by majority).

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. To all of this.

The blades in those drafts protrude much too far and the blades are far too wide.

I would definitely be in for 1 (or 2) if the clip is a Turkish style (i.e. much narrower) and if the Wharncliffe blade is redesigned to be much narrower and sunk into the handle for a slim profile.

As I see it, these drafts look nothing like what was proposed or discussed. The proposed knife seems rather bulky and crude, IMO.

That being said, GEC is top notch and should be the preferred company for these offerings. The fit and finish of the recent Queen-made knives I have purchased (and will be returning) is rather lousy and sloppy. I am glad GEC stepped up for this one, despite the moderately steep price.

I'm in for 1 as is.(or 2 if it comes to the crunch).
What do we call the colur of the scales ?
I would not be adverse to the turkish clip blade nor single blade version either.
cheers.

For those that are discussing the pattern, I think the image used for the previous polls was a photo of a Tony Bose custom.

Based on what the prior committee was able to accomplish, my opinion is that the forum knife is an opportunity to do something new... something much more than just put the Bladeforums stamp on a knife that is already available. I was disappointed when I though that the knife would be just another trapper but am happy to hear that the knife will be a completely new pattern based completely on the custom knife that was shown in the polls. My congrats to the committee. My only reservation is that I don't know that anyone asked Mr. Bose about using his design. As far as the pattern goes, it's a Bose pattern so I don't need any changes to the pattern. ;) I'm going to "bump" the forum knife chat thread with some photos of the Bose pattern.

I'm fine with it as-is. I'd also be fine with it as a single-blade. Either way, I'm in for two knives.

I would be in for one and would like to keep as is with the swedge / as picture wharncliffe - looks great thanks for all your effort on this! (Edit correct auto correct error! Thanks apple!)

I'm in for one as is (2 blades), I have plenty of single blade Wharncliffe's. I'll also add kudos to the knife committee for all their work, and GEC for following through.

I voted keep a is, but I'm not opposed to a single blade wharncliffe.

Personally I'd drop closer to 150 on the current version if I had to.

EDITED: June 8th, As we have received more news about the pattern and all the intricacies involved, I am putting myself up on the fence.

Hi Guys,
First of all thanks for all the hard work

There are some very valid questions being asked
I would like to hear some answers before coming to a decision

Thanks

This knife is similar to a 73/72 3 3/4" frame
Looking on Mike's site I cannot find a two bladed 73/72 in bone for over $95
What is the extra cost?

Are we paying for tooling, if so that not acceptable
Are we paying for an exclusive knife pattern to be limited to only our order, never to be used again, so the collecting value will be protected?
Then an extra $30 is reasonable

.

I voted "Other"

This years knife at $125 seems like a pretty healthy cut over even full retail pricing.

I will gladly pay $125 (as is only) if GEC says this is what we can expect to pay for similar knives when they release their versions through their dealer network, OR if they can justify why ours should cost 25-30% more than almost every 2 blade jigged bone knife they have offered to date.

If not, I'm out and will wait for the regular production models.

I can't bring myself to pay $125 for a $95 knife-- I'm out.

The link below shows a picture of the Tony Bose, that we are wanting to copy
(if someone can send me the link to the images)
The questions asked by Government are very valid

.

Then GEC came through big - they're willing to release a new knife pattern for us which will bring the knife more in line with the Bose photo that was voted on. They're willing to meet all of our specs to a T:

I'm in for one, but if they can slim it down, I'd be in for 2 or 3. It's a touch longer than I'd like, but if they can slim it down, that'd make up for the length.

Thus, I voted to keep it as is, but I'd still be OK to start over and go with the second choice (IIRC), the Irish congress/congress jack. GEC could make it on the 61 pattern, and wouldn't require any new tooling (thus, cheaper).

Are we paying for tooling, if so that not acceptable

This also confused me, if we are paying for new tooling but they turn around and make X number of models off that tooling is it required we be the ones to fork that cost?

Keep it as is brother. 125$ isn`t too expensive for me. I`d be in for 1. Still kicking myself that I missed out on last years.

Robert, I think the thing of it is, is that GEC wouldn't be making this pattern until someone like us approaches them. Once everything is set up, why not go ahead and make a few more for everyone else.
I think GEC has tried to keep the 2011 BF forum knife special by not adding that blade combination to any of their new #85s.

I'm fine with the price, if we can get a Tony Bose pattern knife and not have to really break the bank I'm in.
