2013 BladeForums Traditional Knife Official KICKOFF!

Thanks to all who are stepping up for this years project.

I would preferr a 1095 or similar steel blade, I simply enjoy seeing a blade age as i gets used.
The Congress jack seems to be an interesting pattern.

Here's a few Half Congresses for ya, the first 2 are courtesy of Gary aka Peregrin:

And a few more courtesy of another forum member biglmbass:

[quote="biglmbass, post: 9830364"]The half congress is one of my favorite patterns. That Menefee is fantastic, BTW.

A half congress sounds good to me. It's a slim knife with a single spring. Would like these features:

Low profile main blade similar to the profile on the GEC in the picture above
Round bolsters
Sunk or very low profile run-up
No blade etch
Carbon steel
Gaboon (black) ebony or bone scales

A man can dream can't he?

and don't forget a lot of etching on all blades.

Blaine and Dave-thanks for stepping up. Rest assured that my flippant comments and suggestions will end here and I support you all the way.
Have not voted yet but I'm in no matter what we decide.
Thanks guys.

Too bad - we already placed orders with the finest Pakistani cutlers to make the 2013 half melon toepick in genuine roadkill bone. ;)

I think the best thing about this is that I might end up with a really cool knife that I wouldn't have thought of buying normally or one that is not a configuration you can buy right now. There are already a ton of awesome ideas for this knife, I'm looking forward to having one in hand.

hmm at least with a congress (seems to be the choice of the masses) I won't have the problem I did last year with the knife so nice I bought it twice (forum knife and the later released from GEC #74 in Autumn Leaf Jig Bone) and was considering a third (Becote). Never was a big fan of the congress looks....but there are a few that have caught my eye as a nice piece. Unfortunately most of these have been with handles materials that would probably make it more expensive then I would like to pay for a style that didn't speak to me.

anyway regardless of the final decision I am looking forward to being wowed. And also being granted the ability to put forth my input I love the whole idea of these forums knives and that they are 100% community based :)

I voted Sodbuster, but I did like the look of the Congress Jack Eisman posted.

The traditional forum knives have gotten me to try patterns I would not have looked at. As with the other years I will go with the pattern chosen. Here is to another good pick. Thanks to all.

^^^ Here's a shot with both together. A current MFR Half with a 30+ yr old Jack.

And for those who want to see how much slimmer with just one spring...

ANYTHING but the knife pictured!!!!!! I'd even take a box-cutter before that one.

As usual, I'll buy at least one forum knife not matter what the final decision.

Geeez Ed! Why don't you tell us how you really feel???

I still would like a Congress Jack the most, but I'm in for whatever is chosen. Beautiful pictures in this thread so far!

To show the Queen 4" Half Congress, single spring (this is in D2 and Maple)

With every one asking for a Congress Jack
So while we are on double spring Congresses
S&M make a superb 4" Congress Whittler as an alternative to a Jack?
I have one and the quality is very good indeed
