2013 BladeForums Traditional Knife Official KICKOFF!

Yes, the Remington version of that, complete with Rat-Tails would be wonderful. The key thing is to ensure the Master blade is as long as possible (as the Remington shows) Nice swedge going on there too.

A rat tail is a wide groove, historically cut with a rat-tail (round) file, across the bolster.
Narrow grooves, sometimes seen in multiples, are called threads or thread lines (a "threaded" bolster). I don't know how "fluted" got into the mix, but flutes are longitudinal, not cross-wise, unless they are multiple. Like pattern names, someone's confusion becomes common usage. Will post pics soon.

Here's a real nice rattail congress. I don't remember where I got the pic.

These Barlows have threaded bolsters:

Thanks Charlie, gotta change my vocabulary, but never too old to learn.

Stan, since it is common usage, the meaning of "fluted" is broadening, so it becomes part of the language, I guess. I have realized i don't have enough fingers to hold back the breaches in the dike, but it doesn't stop me from foolishly trying!

Congress jack with rattail bolsters and jigged bone covers made by GEC... This one is going to be amazing.

Last year's knife was supposed to have rattail bolsters, right?

I think it should have completely traditional blades, just like the catalog picture in post number 42!

Yes! After all this is a TRADITIONAL knife forum. I'd love a pen with the swage like in the lovely Congress Charlie just posted.

We can do this in stainless and micarta, 1095 and bone, damascus and tortoise; it's all good.

P.S. if anyone knows where to find a Remington (as pictured), let me know. I've been looking for 5 years.

Forgot to add, the main wharnecliffe blade on the congress jack has to have a long matchstriker pull, a swedge would be nice too. Also, it would be nice if the pen blade had a swedge. Single bolster would look good too, I prefer single bolsters, but it doesn't prevent me from carrying the knives with double bolsters.

By the looks of the poll it looks like the Congress is easily In the lead at 33%, that's fine by me, I'm all over the Congress either way, Half or Jack but you guys pushin' for the Peanut or the Sodbuster, don't lose hope.

IIRC the 2009 Barlow was not the first choice by the first poll, it was close enough to warrant another poll and in that time the Barlow Party mounted a vicious visual campaign and bombarded the thread with picture after picture of gorgeous Barlows and 1 by 1 the converts came and come they did till what at first looked like a hopeless cause, became one of the most sought after forum knives and a knife that found a lot of pocket use among our members.

So my point here is just because the Congress is in the lead, this race ain't over till the fat lady sings so if I were any of you guys who wants a pattern other than the Congress,I'd be postin' up as many gorgeous pics of Sodbusters and Peanuts tryin' to sway the majority as I can , it can happen.

Now I bet you're all wonderin' what's Ted get outta this? Ya know what I get? I get to look at pictures of old and beautiful knives, that's win, win in my book, so if ya want me to change my vote let's see some outstanding looking knife pics here. :)

Oh yea folks keep the pics in this thread lets try to keep the polling thread uncluttered it'll make it easier for Blaine and Dave when it comes time to tabulate the results, not everyone who wants a knife can answer in the poll so they usually comment in the thread to convey their choice.

Thanks for the pic, Eisman.
Speculative specifications:
+Jigged bone please, dark brown, or maybe Yellow Rose?
+1095 or D-2
+Ratail bolsters (drool slobber, slobber)

This pattern would be perfect! dark brown jigged bone would look the best...imho. Ratail bolsters and 1095 blade steel!!
Most perfect slip joint... Great size, wonderful pattern! Congress Jack

Ya know other than the 2007 Canittler we've never had a Whittler, after the success of the medium Stockman I'd be open to a Whittler in the near future a nice Seahorse splitback... :)

I hear a contralto doing voice warmups.
