2014 BladeForums Knife Gallery

Wow, this years knife is looking amazing!!! There is so much character and variation between every one and they all look beautiful. I can't wait till mine arrive... Keep the pics coming ya'll, this thread is awesome!!!

I really like the looks of this knife.;):)

Thanks Primble, me too. Here is a less blurry pic of the pile side.

Jake pointed out the small scratches in the stag possibly from the deer rubbing his antlers on a tree. The resulting marks on the trees are something I've seen many, many times in the Pennsylvania woods. Pretty cool.

I received two today and they are just great, well matched stag, sharp outta da box, and very well finished.......but don't think I paid for any. Hmmm......?

John Lloyd

Very cool!

Thank you for your generous donation.

I am really loving seeing all the different characters that these knives have - stag is awesome and we could not have done it without you!

I agree 100% with mqqn on this one! Thank You John!! You are awesome!!!

Ok here's mine. A bit lighter than most of the ones I've seen so far. Thank you to the fine folks at GEC, Charlie, Barry and everyone else involved. Fit and finish is excellent. I really like the blade without the etch.

Although not heavily figured, that is a very nice knife. Better yet there are no cracks in the covers.

My Club Knife came today as well; perfect opening snap (I'd rate it a 7), excellent closing snap (I'd rate it a 6), a perfectly centered, SHARP blade. Nicely figured stag on both sides, fatter on the mark side, perfect on the pile side - both sides exhibit excellent fitting. OH

Finally made it to the PO this morning and this was in my box.

After looking at it for awhile I matched it up with my Eric's Jack.

Both great little knives. But the extra details on the BF knife puts it out of the park.
Thanks to everybody that brought this knife together. Outstanding job!

Isn't this a beauty of a thread!

I am not sure what the spots are on the bottom one, but it certainly helped me decide which one to carry and which one to preserve. Glad these are home.

I love the smell of 3 in 1 oil from a freshly unwrapped GEC!

Thanks Charlie, Barry and everyone else who made the Tradition continue this year, another high water mark for the annual project!

By the way, mine arrived sharp enough to swipe hair from my arm, so all aspects are top notch.

The variations in the handles are amazing!
Some like 'em smooth, some like 'em gnarly! But we all like 'em sharp!:p
I can see a little horse trading is inevitable.
And some honing - also inevitable.:D

I am putting a little more acute edge on my "second", and I am going to use it.:)

This knife has a wonky swedge, and was labelled a second.
But the steel takes a nice acute edge! This thing takes thin ribbons off newspaper!! Now we will see how long it lasts. I'm gonna carry it exclusively for a while. (that's the hard part!:D - so many knives - so little time!!)

The swedge is OK on this side!

You can see my more acute edge in this picture - the edge is much wider.

Thanks again to Charlie for taking the reins at a time when there was great doubt if there would even be a 2014 BFC knife... to John Lloyd for his very generous donation of fine stag... to Liam for the professionally-done and very excellent label artwork... to Barry for taking on the task of delivering all these beauties... and to Bill Howard and his world-class cutlers for once again hitting a home run.

Mine arrived today! I ordered with a friend, 2 for him 1 for me, so it will still be next week before I get my hands on it. I did get pictures in text message and I am very happy with what I see. Nicely fitted and good and slim. That's how I like them.

Thank you Charlie, Liam, John, Barry, the GEC crew and all who made this knife a reality.

I will try to get some images when I get it in hand.

Nice edge on that seconds Charlie....beautiful handles also....

No luck again today, really hoping it shows up tomorrow, I can't wait to see mine :). All these look great so far, so much nice stag on display!

Second showed up today. One has chunky, bumpy slabs and the other is thin, contoured, and smooth. Both razed arm hair without a problem fresh from the tube. Dead center, no gaps, flush in all positions, firm 6-7 pull, and an all-around show of craftsmanship from the folks at GEC. My thanks to Charlie, John, Liam, and Barry for pulling together this excellent package. Forgive the blur in the first picture: I was clearly too excited for my own good and it was still the best of the four! :D

Fantastic knives folks, GEC did a stunning job all around. The stag, blades, and those bolsters are just beautiful! Kudos to everyone involved in the project!! (Now you FINALLY get to take a breather ;) )

Just wanted to add a comment regarding the post quoted below; take GREAT care if any of you want to attempt a mod like that, those center pins are spun, meaning that they have a head on them similar to a nail head. There's no swelling of the pin at all below the head, which means that if you grind the head off the only thing holding the pin in place is the spring tension. Eventually it'll work loose and you'll wind up with gaps, a protruding pin, and a knife that needs to be re-pinned and spun. No offence meant toward the OP, just felt that folks needed to know the downfalls.

Eric

Yes, just smooth it out some. There's a "lump" on one side that's not too comfortable. And the edge of the brass pin has a sharp edge. Nothing too drastic, just knocking the high spots down!

This one will be a user, so I may as well make it "mine". The other will stay in the tube for now.

This is the before:

And here it is now, after a few "make it mine" tweaks. For me anyway, it went from so-so to my new favorite. Scales evened up and a proper edge, ready for work this weekend!

Thanks Eric, I wanted to say something about that but it is better coming from a pro like yourself.:)

Today was a good day!

Thank you so much to all involved in this wonderful project! I don't think they could have come out any better!
