2014 Forum Knife

I love the sodbuster and all, but I don't think there needs to be a special version of one. With all the options that Case, Queen, and GEC have been putting out, I don't see the need to make something new/different.

I think a single blade trapper would be good and simple....

Edit: Maybe it's finally time for that Blade Forums peanut.

I am more of a single blade guy so a s single blade trapper sound like a nice simple idea and would not cost too much.

gaauuur. don't you guys know anything? a hop sock is something they use in the beer making process. I thought everyone knew that.
ps I'm in for one as long as we get compressed goose feather scales:rolleyes:

I have some serious questions about the aesthetic appeal and utility of compressed goose feathers. I believe Swan feathers would clearly be a better choice. ;)

Didn't you read the rules? If it has a thumbhole or stud, pocket clip, or swan feathers, it's not traditional! Sheesh...

Black Swan or Mute Swan?
how about the compressed arm hair shaved from the arms of traditional knife enthusiasts when they sharpen their blades? You couldn't get anymore traditional than that. In order to vote you must donate arm hair. Say a 4lb ball per member.

I like the idea of the pre-pay to vote, but maybe with a caveat. I'd be alot more comfortable if there was at least some kind of bounds set. Maybe a couple simple polls, do we want to do a single blade or 2 blade, is there a set price limit? (won't go over 75 or won't go over 100 bucks, etc?). I mean I will probably be in regardless, I'm still smarting from opting out of the trapper because the drawings made it look porky. But still, if I put in my 50 bucks and it was a fat sheepsfoot with radioactive snipe feather scales I'd probably be miffed. On second thought that might just be worth it prove to smarty pants uncle that snipes exist, irradiated or not! So assuming we find a way to go forward at all, maybe a couple very basic polls to set very basic parameters first? Then pay to vote for specifics? It seems reasonable to me to opt out when you find out it is your least favorite format. But after you've accepted it's a single blade with bone scales, you're chipping in to figure out the finer details with the rest of the deposit payers. Just a thought.

Since there's been alot of throwing ideas around I'll chime in with a thought. Single blade saddlehorn in bone scales. I like smooth bone but I'd be fine with jigged too. I'd prefer a clip myself, but open to other ideas. Just throwing it out there with everybody else.

Crud! I just sharpened a bunch last week, so it's gonna take me a while to grow it back. You seem like a burly fellow; could you spot me some arm hair? I can mail you a box of arm shavings in a few months, alomg with maybe some nail clippings as interest.

I ran into a guy I had worked with 25 years ago, I hadn't seen him in just as long, while standing in home depot he said he had to be sure it was me, he pulled my shirt sleeve up, looked up and down my arm, pulled my sleeve down and said, "...now I know it's you." I said, "...what are ya lookin' for?", He said, "...bald spots from testing sharpened knives." :)

Yeah, bald spots on the arm is a sign of dedication!

Just watch it doesn't spread to having to utilize the leg-hair due to overgrazing by knives on the arm.......:D:D

This thread shows a lot of inventive enthusiasm.

I'm with you and dont want to be contrary but what about the old case xx scout knives that had thumb studs on the pen blades or camillus USMC knives with studs on the screwdriver/bottle opener. Just curious what y'all make of that?

What I'm seeing here are some great ideas, some really dumb ideas (those are mine btw),some Wit and Humour, positivity all tempered with a liberal dose of reality.
I like all of the ideas and if I had loads of money would make them all possible. Sadly that is unlikely to happen but I will be amazed if 2014 doesn't work out for us.
There is a good aura around this . Most importantly we need to support those who might step up to the task.

ps
(I can get a huge supply of arm hair-I work with some very hirsute firefighters.I sneak up to them while they sleep...and sha-Heey HEY! Ok Ok Just because its a "worst nightmare scenario" doesn't make it entirely wrong.) Now I suppose I'll be told not to hang around at the barber shop with my dustbuster and pillowcase.

Well, you got me on the USMC MIL-K knife, but the stud on the can opener of the old camping style knives isn't for your thumb; once you jab down through the lid, you rest the stud on the side of the can to give you leverage to rotate the knife and cut the lid off.

aha! you're right. Yeah they're definitely not the same as the modern studs/holes. But it gets me thinking a nice camp/scout knife might be an idea for the 2014 BF knife. A spearpoint main with long pull, pen/can opener with a small stud (if this type would be admissible), a nice sharp awl, screw driver/bottle opener and a bail. All that in 1095 with some nice jigged redbone or smooth ebony would be pretty sharp.

I don't think there are enough scout/camp knives out there. I'd love to do one, but I honestly think the price will be too excessive for most people to want to participate. Too many blades..... unless we went with a Victorinox Bladeforums Pioneer.
