In light of the following (also earlier in the thread), were you thinking of Shanghaiing the man, or did you have something else in mind?

The headache of dealing with two levels of administration is just too daunting for me though! I am reluctant to be involved in any way.

Due respect (including for the man's excellent working relationship with GEC and the outcomes of their joint ventures) suggests we wait to see what's behind Frank's Door #3, The Countdown.

Actually P, i read that as leaning on Charlie for his expertise and guidance in choosing patterns and details that might appeal to the majority. Certainly not volunteering him for the see-through and daily details. More of an overall guiding hand in choosing a unique design.

P.S. Of course only if he were willing.

Well, I wasn't wanting to impose on him, but I'm all for the Shanghai Schenanigans. Where are we going to keep him until it's done?

If you have a smoke house on your place, Woodrow, you could chain him to something heavy (feed him well) and not let him see the light of day until you get some results. ;)
Oracles speak only when directed do do so by the gods they represent. The knife gods are not moved by our plight.

As with every year I will buy one. The forums knives are the only series of knives I collect and it'd be a shame to stop this great tradition.

Hope Charlie likes crawfish.

Exactly Sarah. We are talking about a Forum Knife and it should be picked by members (plural) of the forum - not just one person. And everyone ought to be able to vote with no money down!!! It amazes me (well, not really) how many multi-year members of the forum have been chiming in with comments who have never bought a Forum Knife. That's their privileged of course but if they're going to run their fingers, they ought to buy a knife.

We'll just have to wait and see what Frank and Gary have to say.

Well dern. I was looking forward to keeping Charlie as a hostag.... er. um. guest for a few months.

What for? A non-paying poll running for a week, listing several (perhaps as many as 10) patterns (none of which are of a pattern for a past forum knife), should be sufficient to select the base 2014 Forum Knife. Add-ons can be determined by further polls or by a committee (not just one person).

Perhaps Mr. Campagna is already someone's "guest"? His silence on this thread seems suspicious!

Well, I'm actually saving money in the hope of being ready this time! If it goes ahead.
Personally I'm in regardless of what the knife is, as long as I have enough funds available. If we can keep it around the 100-120 Dollar mark as a maximum, that would be wonderful.

My preference (if it matters after saying I'm in no matter what) would be to avoid repeating any previous forum knife pattern. Having different patterns each year is a large part of the interest. Ideally in a new pattern for the supplier, or at least a unique material for an existing pattern by the supplier.

I don't post in here often...

but when I do, it's to suggest a sodbuster...

I think a Sodbuster in Red Delrin with 1095 steel would be an amazing BF Knife. I'm always trying to pick up a red soddie like the Bulldog's and Old Queens but they're pretty rare. If we made our own through GEC or Case ti could still be pretty cheap. We could call it the Knutbuster! Kidding aside I'm very serious and would buy at least 3.

The end result of the 13 project was a great knife, a rare pattern and excellent quality.

However, it was a lot of stress for those involved in the admin of it, lots of polls where everybody had their say, lots promised to buy but some did not materialize... big headache for the main financial sponsor...

I'd suggest that a ' Council of Wise Elders from the Trad Forum' put their heads together, suggest a pattern already in production (to save tooling costs etc) with a handle they approve of, get a quote from a company. Then set a sign up deadline, if there's no interest no knife, if there is we procede. Say a stainless 48 Slimline Trapper from GEC in Ram's Horn just an example :D (never had the pattern before, no single blade, no stainless before, no Ram's horn etc) Yes I know it's not very 'democratic' and all that but polls can get out of hand, bickering can break out over imagined grievances, and the process can get mired. Then there's the financial complexities which are considerable, so we might not be able to get it off the ground to be realistic. Which is why I suggest a nominated knife rather than "I want xyz but at only abc cost" just sayin';)

^This x2

Hopefully there'll come a day soon when someone on the 'inside' will give an honest and frank account of what actually happened with the 2013 knife. Until that happens, all the guesswork and theorizing will be a depressing read.
