2014 Forum Knife

A #15 Charlow - Clip Blade w/long pull - Smooth white bone handle w/easy open notch. I would buy three or four...........where do I send my $$$? :D

What might be needed is someone unconditionally qualified to make any and all decisions about the 2014 BF knife. Someone who has forgotten much more than most of us will ever know about traditional pocket cutlery. Someone who has the experience to take charge of the process and who we could all trust to have the best vision to see it to completion.

If we could just find such a person....

I don't think there are enough scout/camp knives out there. I'd love to do one, but I honestly think the price will be too excessive for most people to want to participate. Too many blades..... unless we went with a Victorinox Bladeforums Pioneer.

That's an idea. Paring down, a harness jack might be nice. Or what do you call a two blade - lets say spear and awl - that are on opposite ends but share a spring?

I think that would be a great idea, but, if they are gunna have hair on the handles, count me out :).
Bob

Compressed hair-it won't be hairy as such. Think more like carbon fibre with a the very traditional flavour of ramshorn (same material). I must say I kinda like Blaines generous offer of toenails as well which are pretty much exactly like ramshorn. So fibrous keratin micarta or faux Ram it is then. Elephant toenail would have to be the pattern.

I like the cut of your jib, sir. Especially if we convince Barry et al to create a custom BF blade stamp.

Lets just do another barlow with a "BF" bolster stamp, covers can be whatever is available and affordable to the majority and/or the maker.

67nick, I like the idea for the "BF" bolster stamp on a Barlow. I'd be more than happy with any variety of wood handles, a single clip blade and the aforementioned bolster made by GEC for their great QC and standards. Think Waynorth would be a great General to lead this charge, but, with all the pies he's got his fingers in that'd be asking a lot. Was going to keep my opinions to myself but there she goes.

IMO, the barlow has been done. It's time for something that hasn't been done. To steal from peregrin:

The stumbling-block with an SFO is that the name 'Bladeforums' is owned and its use would have to be agreed to and paid for, which might double the price of the knife, and may cause some manufacturers not to want to touch it because of previous bad experiences.

I just don't see it  ;) I'm in no matter what just remember, it's hard enough to please one knife knut, let alone placate 200.

I don't post in here often...

but when I do, it's to suggest a sodbuster...

I could go for something like that in an ivory Micarta, something that could be scrimshawed done the road, maybe a nice BFC logo done by Kevin with his laser engraver.

I hold out how for this year's knife, we have at our disposal some of the best deal makers in the industry, along with some of the most creative people in the industry, I think if we really set out minds to it we could build a 4 blade congress in oral with Damascus blades for under $100 delivered. ;) you get my point, if we want it bad enough we'll find a way to make it happen, I still like the idea of a small fixed blade, back pocket sheath that could be converted to a necker by just adding a chain.

I really believe that done in the style of the AGRussell Woods Walker or maybe a bird and trout style knife, a small skinner or a small wharncliffe blade, these should be easy to build, easy to sharpen, easy to handle and cheap enough to make, heck we might even be able to have a member here make them by the batches, we could have a custom/handmade forum knife this year. :)

Well, I see we have come full circle...after 274 pages worth of hand wringing, angst, flights of fancy, champagne tastes on a Ripple budget, and other various sundry delusions, someone has finally come to their senses; the lowly Sod Buster; well done sir.

Be sure to credit the member with that original thought now, ya' hear.

Except that the sodbuster was brought up about two weeks ago in this thread at post #159 and then the idea dissipated by just three or four posts later.

This of course was after you posted your thought (which I thought was a great idea!) about 2 1/2 weeks ago when this thread got started:

Let's make it more affordable, so I say a Case Sodbuster with black ebony scales, retaining the large bird's eye pivot, with a simple shield on both sides, one side engraved Blade Forum, the other side engraved 2014. I'll put my order in now for three. Thanks for listening.:)

Not too many folks read the whole thread when it gets long and detailed.
