2014 Forum Knife

I have not yet seen the "new" Queen consistently muster to desired tolerances (though there are signs of hope), so I would be hesitant to entrust them with this project-- and especially with John Lloyd's gifted stag-- as a further test balloon to see if they're now up to snuff. Let them get another year of quality production under their belt, then see if they're even willing to take on a BF Forum knife (I don't believe they were interested, last year?).

We're far under Case's requisite minimums, my understanding is that that company is out as well.

If GEC, who has proven amenable to forum knife efforts in the past (and done its part to bring them in under $100), I'm hoping for something other than a #15.

Two observations here: Queen's existing patterns in D2 shod with ACSB or Zebra seem to be more than OK in consistency in my experience, excellent quality knives. It's their other runs, such as the former Heritage series that are questionable. So an existing pattern such as the Teardop single blade, Copperhead or their Whittler shod in stag with the BF stamp could really be worthwhile.

Secondly, I agree that something other than the 15 would be more interesting and apt, these are SFOl well-loved niche knives and 'our' knife should ideally be a pattern not yet used as a Forum K but in production. Hence my floating the Queen D2 range or GEC EUREKA SINGLE BLADE IN STAG!!!:D:D:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks, Will

How about a barehead single clip or clip/wharncliffe GEC # 56 Dogleg (serptentine) in stag to go with all of our Houndsteeth we love so much (in Tidiuote trim - no blade etch, no shield, no pinched or lined bolster - just a BF tang stamp) ?

I agree with Sarah that Queen's recent quality has been inconsistent (and there's anecdotal evidence to support this).

EDC Forums 2014 knife was a moonglow stockman from Queen. Reading through the threads fit and finish/quality control was a pretty big disappointment from several members who had to return their knives for repairs. Just passing along what I read...

Will, thanks for the input! I'm glad you have found some good 'uns, and it's heartening to hear of reliably well-constructed knives.

Still, my concerns as stated above stand, as does my thought to give Queen at least another year of proven quality production before entrusting them with something like this, especially in light of whatever-went-on with the EDC Forum Knife-- not confidence-inspiring.

However, should Queen get the nod, I trust it will be because Charlie has determined which pattern(s) (and people) to choose that will avoid both old tooling and sloppiness in other tolerances. ;)

I really hope we get GEC to do the 2014 knife. I just really don't care for the quality of knife that Queen or CSC produces. I'd probably pass if it were either of those 2 companies. Its just my opinion and I don't expect it to change anything.

Thanks to everyone who is helping to put this thing together

Since there has been an overwhelming:D desire for a custom soddy, especially one with bolsters, here's what a Case Soddy would look like with stag and bolsters. Pictures, btw, are by Seals, one of our resident knife makers...

That's something I've been looking for myself. I find when I carry a stockman pattern that the sheepsfoot and clip blade get most of the work. I've always thought it would be interesting to have the same blades but with no crinking in a 2-blade jack.

I was excited when Boker brought this one out, but still don't like the feel of the sheepfoot when using the clip blade. I know I can lower it by filling the kick, but that would make it less attractive should I decide to sell it in the future.

Thanks Charlie for heading this up. I'm in for whatever is decided, but like others I hope it's made by GEC. Can't wait to see the choices!!!

I'm hoping it's GEC that makes it but am in regardless.

I agree…GEC has got me spoiled. I've let go of knives because they don't measure up to GEC's standards.

I couldn't agree more! I've received two GEC's in the last month and both were outstanding. I'm very interested in this forum knife.

I will not be disappointed if GEC is chosen the maker, but I'm okay with either Queen or CSC. In fact, they have some great knives in their inventory of patterns. I'm interested to see what they can propose to us. I like GEC, but I would welcome another knife of either of these other manufacturers in my accumulation.
