2014 G.E.C. RENDEZVOUS, Who's Coming ?

They are selling ten each day, I think the first ten were sold before 11:00 a.m.
If I didn't have to work tomorrow, I would get there early to buy one.
They had #31 in the store on display, IT IS A SWEET FOLDER.
From what I understood the scales are from the wooden pipe ( sucker rod ) used many years ago in the oil drilling process.
It is quite fitting that these are used for the Rendezvous Knife as Titusville is where the oil industry started.
You hit the nail on the head Tim.

I ended up going fishing on oil creek then staying in Franklin. I work in cook forest, so I decided titusville is kiinda on the way to work and stopped, so today I am carrying this:

A Skunk barlow???? Help me. :D No Tomato to taunt me with???? :D

Have a great time Charlie

Best regards

Robin

Charlie's Barlow presentation case was awesome all around. I loved that skunk, the yellow bone was even nicer than I thought, the harness Jacks in blood red jigged bone were just great looking, and an old saw back Russel was sweet.

Charlie was very easy to talk to and very informative, he had a Barlow that he had put entirely in hot cider vinegar. Very cool.

A while back there was some talk about how gec kept the tangs from wearing away the springs while leaving the blades hard. The answer, given by Bill during the tour, is even more interesting than you would think. Apparently they have the blades heat treated at Peter's Heat Treating in Meadville (which is cool in itself, because they're such a well respected outfit. Used by many custom makers) then they put them in a mechanism that turns with heated coils that only reach to the end of the tang (they don't heat the actual blade area) and therefore only temper the tang. He said the blades come from Peter's, and remain, at 59 rc while the springs are tempered down to the 40s.

Please correct me if I got anything wrong on that.

Gotta love that smile! Seeing this pic made me smile even before I saw the knife. Great pic

Good stuff in Titusville today. I'm very grateful to be able to attend and spend time with such great people.

Well, it was a fine time at the rendezvous yet again this year. My dad and I made it out there around 10:30 this morning. My dad went on the tour, and I spent my time sitting with this guy:

We got there a tad late to score one of the sucker rod barlows, but all told, between Charlie and the Queen collectors show down the road, I think I did alright...

Yep, Charlie sold me grail barlow. A single spear sawcut bone with long pull. Oh, it had some funny mark on the blade, too.

I also couldn't pass up on this guy:

That's my first spey model. Soup bone, no less!

The EO radio scout jumped into my hands in the factory store.

At the show down the road, I picked up my first spearpoint 25 and this old beater in ebony...

I can't wait for next year! I also want to take a second to thank the amazing crew at GEC for putting on such a wonderful event, and especially to Charlie for doing so much for us knife nuts!

If you ever had any doubts about making the trip to titusville for a rendezvous, trust me. Go once, and you'll be hooked!

I missed out on the rendezvous knife but got this 81 in oil sucker rod wood instead. It's marked on the bolster #3/8!

And this 66 frame HJ has long been on my want list. Fantastic example of the tomato acrylic.

And this was on the porch when I got home. Today was a good day!

Dan, that soup bone is to die for! All great pickups, and you are lucky to have gotten some quality time with the Barlow King himself!

Brian, congrats on the sheep/cap and that rare oil sucker!
