So, what is the manufacturing status? They should well along if delivery is going to be by the end of this month.

I'm sure they're progressing, but this last quote from Eric puts a more realistic time frame somewhat later:

If I could just interject a note from the trenches: That seems mighty optimistic, I'd look more toward mid to end of September. Blades have to be cut, nail marked and stamped, then sent out for heat treat which alone could take up to two weeks if they're backed up. Once we get them back we still have to grind them, and that's just the blades. Since we're already nearing the second week of August I'd say the latter part of September is a safer bet. I'll keep you updated with some WIP pics once things get rolling.

I for one, am in no hurry. I'll just consider it an early Christmas present. "Merry Christmas to me."

Ah! You're back! I've been trying to post all day. So here is what I know:

I'm waiting on some fresh info as to the production status, meanwhile, there have been a snag or two delaying the process a little. Wally tells me this morning that September is more likely, even though he has tried to get them out earlier. I'll update again as soon as I hear more from "the man".

We still have about 70 knives available guys, so get 'em while you can. These are gonna be KILLER!!!

I'm not in a particular hurry either. Probably won't use the knife anyway for a while (months and perhaps years) as I use others. Of course my credit card was billed immediately. But, I understand; there is upfront money involved in getting these kinds of special orders completed.

The Traditional Forum knife is not a money making venture for any of the forum dealers or other forum members involved. For that reason the price is due at the time of order. It just wouldn't be right to expose those that do this for the community to financial risk, although there is some inherent in any enterprise. Hopefully the pre-payment helps minimize that.

That's what I like about a prepayment. It's payed for, I don't have to worry about it, and after a long wait, it's like a gift from my younger self.

Was thinking about this knife earlier. Was there ever a closed picture from the top? I'm interested to see how thin it actually is.

My thoughts exactly! I bought mine before moving, and those expenses are piling up fast so I am glad this is already paid for.

Exactly Gary. Also, payment for the order is 30% down and the balance is due when the order is shipped from Canal St. We still need to sell more knives so funds will be available when that time arrives, so if you're wanting one or more, please buy soon so I can rest easy! :)

I would get a second if it were within my means (maybe at the end of the month, if they are still there). It makes economic sense, keep the one with the wood that you like best, and you can sell the second one, the value only increases once they are no longer available on the primary market.

I've seen forum knives that other members had bought multiples of and sold many years later to members who had missed out and didn't get one. I can't recall any being sold at a profit, in fact many members also gifted or held giveaways with their extra knives in which case they took a loss.

Financially only because they gained so much more in the way of life long friendships they made as a result or just the personal satisfaction they garnered by their generosity. I don't think the forum knife was ever in 10 years about the money, it's about community and the love of knives, a labor of love as it were. I'm not saying buying more than one with the intention to make money on the secondary is a bad idea. I'm just saying in 10 years I personally have not seen it happen.

I bought one, I'll never sell it I'll just as it to the other nine and my regular carry knives... :) buy em up folks these are gonna be gorgeous.

Have you ever tried to find the one from a few years back with the cap lifter on the EO bullet end jack? Have only seen them on the auction site at $300+. Love that knife, but never can find one (or any 85) reasonably priced.

I like the idea of people not just buying knives up to jack up the price though.

I have bought multiples for the last few years ( the cap opener one was the exception and, well, it got stolen out of my mailbox anyway) I have given my extras away each time (I may well keep my second this year). I actually buy extras just for that purpose.

I purchased 2 last year (sold off the one I liked the least), and 3 this year. I'm hoping to end up with one that's "just right", then pass on or give away the other 2.

This is really a rare and spectacular opportunity to get a GREAT deal on a pseudo-custom knife that our community had a hand in bringing to life. As a knife nut, it just doesn't get much better than that!

Many thanks to all who make this happen, we're all grateful for your efforts!!

In the years that I bought extras of the forum knife, I did this same thing, either trading them or making them part of a GAW. I typically buy two with the plan of carrying one and storing one, but it never works out that way. This year's knife might find a place in my pocket right away though!
