I read that thread three times and cannot see where it says that any decision has been made.

Which post said that, and what was the decision?

Thanks! I didn't see where that post clearly indicates what shield was chosen ( I am guessing it was the proposed substitute). I guess I got confused because I am still seeing posts (e.g., 68 and 70) on the fourth page of that thread arguing for the runner-up in the original vote, and other posts (69, 71 and 72?) seemingly discussing another vote . . . so it was not clear to me that it was settled.

Anyway, if it has been decided to go with the proposed substitute, it is a winner in my book.
 
I'm fine with the schrade shield - good to see things moving ahead.

It was announced the decision was made and the thread closed. See the last post in that thread. Hell of a way to run a railroad.

They could have left the thread open or done a new poll and wasted a couple of weeks, slowing or completely stopping production on the knives. Out of the 4 pages of replies there were only 2 to 3 people who dissented. Hardly sounds like a railroading. Charlie obviously didn't want to make the Executive decision without getting some quick feedback and it all came back positive to go ahead with the Schrade shield in a short period of time. I don't think it would have ended any different at the end of another 2 week poll. I would have changed my vote from the bowtie to the Schrade shield just as others had stated in the closed thread. Just for the history behind it, I think it would have been a huge landslide.

I'm glad the quick decision was made after receiving some feedback. Now the knives can continue through manufacturing and I'll be happy to get the two that I ordered.

My thoughts, exactly. That's why I closed the other thread. Further conversation on the topic after the decision had been made would only have confused the issue.

I didn't and don't advocate a new poll. However if the shield that won the original poll is unavailable or undoable, the first (perhaps only) alternative to be considered probably should have been the shield that came in 2d place in that poll. Looks as if that alternative wasn't even considered, and that alternative would have been just as quick and with no delay. If it's truly the case where the 2d place/next most popular shield chosen/voted onl was not even considered, I question why votes were elicited/requested to begin with.

There was VERY LITTLE TIME for anyone to weigh in on the other thread so very few actually did weigh in. I could see using little/no time if the decision was to go with the item that came in 2d place in the poll when 1st place wasn't available.

I'm even more excited now with the new old shield! A CSC with a Schrade shield? How cool is that? I think it'll be really cool for CSC to show their pedigree!
 
Like the Decision!!!, the new shield looks even better and I appreciate the efforts of all those involved! looks like we will have another winner in our hands before long! Steven

I do understand your position Leghog. Not sure why Charlie didn't inquire about using the bowtie, but I think they were looking for a similar shield that was close to the short bomb that won the poll. Many people's reasoning for choosing that shield overall was the aesthetics of the way it fit the knife, so using a similar size/shape shield was probably on their radar, but I do not want to put words in their mouths. I'm also going to assume that this is a decision that was needed in a short period of time. Charlie and everyone involved have been outstanding with this process and if there was more time to take responses to the decision, they certainly would have granted it.

I will say that from the reaction that this decision has elicited in this short time, if that Schrade shield was on the original poll, it would have won without a contest. I hope that you're still going to get one of the knives because with or without a shield, it should make for a very fine addition to anyone's collection or user rotation.

I originally voted for the bowtie, but I feel that going with the next closest shield to the short bomb that won the poll is the best and most fair way to proceed. Regardless of the shield this is going to be one gorgeous knife, and I appreciate all of the effort that has gone into this from Charlie, Barry and the community. I'm just excited to get my '15 traditional BF knife into my grubby hands...
