2015 BLADEFORUMS Club Knife - SHIPPED!!

The history has been listed many times, to include it would take away from the knife chosen this year and there's still an issue of printing, rolling and tube stuffing an easier solution I'd a printable file that we could all print or ourselves and fill up and include it in the paper work and packaging. If anyone chooses they can print the past knives and their quantities on the back.

I like the idea of just going ahead without complicating the current teams efforts on this year's knife. Anyone who wants totals IIRC somewhere in this thread is a pic of all the past knives and total production #s. If you can't find it and really want to know message me and I'll tell you what I know about the past knives.

Why not just post the historic "scroll" on the forum so folks who want it can print or save it for retention? That may be more practical than printing 300 copies and mailing to CSC or others for box stuffing.

I agree with individuals printing the scroll from a production/packaging standpoint.
Its not really cost effective to print 300 pages, mail to CS, then CS pack pages just to ship out again.

I definitely want a 'history scroll' to accompany my first forum knife though.
Ill be first in line at the printer! :p

I totally agree. Brilliant guys.
This would simplify this project immeasurably.
Now, since I have a draft ready to go, all I need to know is how to post that draft here in MS Word format. My draft is without individual contributor's names because inevitably I would leave some names out and I would error on who contributed what. I don't want to do that. Anyone else want to take on that facet...God bless you.

If either moderator Gary or Frank read this, you mind pointing me in right direction on getting the file up? I could figure it out in a couple of days but you are the experts...right?

I didn't and don't advocate a new poll. However if the shield that won the original poll is unavailable or undoable, the first (perhaps only) alternative to be considered probably should have been the shield that came in 2d place in that poll. Looks as if that alternative wasn't even considered, and that alternative would have been just as quick and with no delay. If it's truly the case where the 2d place/next most popular shield chosen/voted onl was not even considered, I question why votes were elicited/requested to begin with.

There was VERY LITTLE TIME for anyone to weigh in on the other thread so very few actually did weigh in. I could see using little/no time if the decision was to go with the item that came in 2d place in the poll when 1st place wasn't available.

I voted the way I did on the shield poll, because I wasn't enamored with either of the bombs offered -- had this one been in the running I would have voted for it, so even though I missed the brief comment period, I agree with the substitution wholeheartedly. For that matter, had they gone with the second place choice, which I really did not like, I still would have maintained my order, because the forum knife isn't about the knife to me - it's bout the community in this forum.

Thank you Jake! You are spot on as to the reasons why the shield was 'substituted'.

We weren't able to use the shield originally voted on, as it was an 'archived' item that is no longer available and we were unable to procure a new source, so the closest shield was the 'Schrade' model chosen. Yeah, we could have had another poll, but that takes time and our knife is NOT the only project Canal Street has in the works. In order to make this happen in a reasonable time frame (like this year), a command decision needed to be made.

If anyone is unhappy with the substituted shield, I'm happy to cancel your order and refund your payment, but I think the decision is the correct one to go with. Personally, I like the substituted shield better than the archived model.

not only am I keeping my order, if Leghog is upset enough with the process that he requests a refund, I'll take a second one, so you're not left holding the bag. ;)

thanks again to the team bringing this knife to reality.

Well this talk of a scroll, or some Letters Patent of nobility, all sounds great and I'd second having a pdf for us to download and print.

BUT, maybe some thought should be given to making a pop up book, featuring Charlie, Barry, Wally and Eric bustling about working to get this all pulled together ;)

I love all the all the different views of this knife. So many people love it because it represents this community, others because of the whole process, others like the historical shield etc. I really just want it because it is a cool pattern in stainless. Could care less about the printout of history or honestly even the forum stamp. I appreciate all the different reasons though and think that is what makes it neat. Very excited to get and carry mine.

Real nice looking knife, hopefully they last another couple of weeks so I can cough up the $88. The wood accented by the shield and pivots but without bolsters is a real unique look.
If you miss out, I'll let you have mine for what it cost me. If that happens (you missing out) let me know then. I committed to purchasing the knife so I'll honor that commitment, but I probably won't keep the knife for long.

If the buyers voted on it, it really ought to be about the vote. That's what I'm trying to convey. For the record I voted neither for the 1st place nor the 2d place winner in the shield vote, but I still think the poll voting should have been honored. Otherwise, why even vote?

I committed to purchasing the knife so I'll honor that commitment, but I probably won't keep the knife for long and that has nothing to do with which shield used but how that shield selection came about. We each make our own choices for our own reasons.

I just want the knife. I don't even care if it comes in a fancy box.
I share that point of view. The shield argument was just fun, but nothing serious. Unless the proposed knife is very ugly or very expensive, I 'd get that knife anyway because it is a special one linked with this forum.

Is this knife going to come in a fancy tube with nice printing in wax paper?
I never bought a traditional knife before other then a garage sale or flea market purchase. So the forum stamp and history and presentation matters to me. Also I don't want to have to print anything. I don't have a printer and even if I did the quality ink and paper would be lesser quality even though I can go to a printing shop. But all that is a hassle. It's only 300 printings should be included in purchase of knife. Making people print it is modern not traditional. Delay the product if it means better quality which includes presentation to me. This is a forum knife I want to see it unique. I am debating pre-ordering my first traditional forum knife.

Delay the project Needler??, what are you talking about? If I had my guess, since Canal Street is making the knife, it will be in one of their boxes. A short history might be fine, but I am not particularly interested in a detailed history. Keep it relatively short. I would rather see it as a pdf so people can't edit it easily.

On this year's knife, I noticed that the thread started up almost immediately following the release of the 2014 knife. I didn't even look at the thread. People put too much emphasis on the traditional forum knife. Yeah it's cool, but as long as it's nice looking, I really don't care about many of the details as long as they are consistent with a premium factory knife. But the basic pattern choice is important to me. For example, I didn't really consider getting the 2013 knife.

Guys, I really like some of your ideas, especially Gary's idea for the "pop-up book" which would make the project truly exceptional, however, the project is for the knife, in a green Canal St. box (and perhaps a CSC velvet bag) with a donated label. Anything other than that will add to the cost and effort involved, and since the price is fixed and 250+ sold we are 'locked in' to the project as-is.

If anyone would like to donate printed material, patches, glossy photos, or whatever, that would be fine, but the material must be added to the order which involves extra work for somebody. While it doesn't take long to add material to one box or shipping envelope, adding material to 300 items adds considerable time and effort, so please keep that in mind. Also, we are on a mission to get this project finished and shipped in a timely manner, so these 'add-ons' should have been thought of months ago. I'm not trying to be a 'naysayer', but I am just being realistic. Remember, this is a VOLUNTEER project; thank you all for your participation and interest!

This will be an exceptional knife and I'm looking forward to it. In fact, it is such a good deal price-wise, I think I'll order another for my pocket!;):D

Needler, this would be a good start on a traditional accumulation. The price is very good for stuff that you see coming out of Canal Street or GEC. It will be a quality knife and one you should be proud to own.

I have been considering the same thing Gunstockjack with another knife. Which means if only a few members do it, the rest of the knives are spoken for. So, Needler, get your order in.

You hit the nail on the head.
Couldn't agree more.

I'm debating it. It would be the most expensive knife I purchased to date. I mainly want it to join the community of people who own it and the forums. If I did it would be a light user as I would favor keeping it in good condition. Not a big into traditionals but I want a GEC and I know those go for even more.I only just found out about these from recent interest in traditional knives. I can see resellers taking advantage too. Which imo should be limited one per shipping address. If I had $27 thousand I would have bought all them. :-)

I understand the expense perfectly. I didn't buy last years trad forum knife and regret it. I just didn't have the loose money when the ordering was being done. But I lived and so will you if you choose not to order one.

You can post and join the community without buying this knife. It's a pretty good deal given the materials though. GEC knives are available around the same price too though.

If you are wanting to spend the most money you ever have spent on a knife I would make sure it's what you want, not just an unneeded pass to become a member of some community.

This thread has made me look again at GEC, Queen, and S&M knives. I am seriously thinking of getting a #53 of some sort and yes, it is similar to the 2015 forum knife. Costs more too. So, the forum knife is a good buy.

I'm good with that.
I really don't want to see anything more added or subtracted to this deal in the interest of expediency.
