From the "work in progress thread". I thought this announcement should be in this thread also.

If nobody minds, I'll ship out the overseas orders in the next batch, regardless of order. This might delay a few domestic orders for a week, but at least everyone will receive their knives before Christmas.

This is an awesomely thoughtful idea; and I concur wholeheartedly that it is the right thing to do.

Let's hope Canal Street stays in business long enough to supply all the knives ordered. The other issue is what happens if there is a defect with a knife? That might not be a problem for those who have received their knife in the first shipment but it could be an issue for those who are at the end of the line. We are assuming the employees will stay to the bitter end, but perhaps some may elect to leave and find another job.
 
I haven't been following all of this too closely, figuring I'll get my knife when it gets here. But, all this about CSC closing.... Is this a definite? And if so, what is the time frame for the final door close?
 
No official announcement from CSC but apparently they are closing. Who knows when they will officially close the doors or how long the existing employees will stay now that they know the company is closing. I just hope to receive a knife, and if I do receive a knife it doesn't have any problems. If there is a problem I guess I'm just...

I wouldn't worry about completing the order and there's usually a few additional kept for issues. I'm more concerned for the families and employees, you'll have your knife I'm sure even though they may all have a rough holiday. Happy Holidays to you too Vinifera :rolleyes:
 
Thank you Barry! I got a notice from the USPS via your e-mail, that my knife would arrive on Friday. Once again I thank all who participated in creating this years knife - it was terribly fun right from the beginning with all the suggesting, speculating, postulating, and spirited discussion. I'm especially thankful to Charlie, Eric, Liam, and Barry for all the work they put in - more than I'm sure we can even imagine. The only fly in the ointment is the sadness associated with the closing of Canal Street Cutlery and the emotional and financial impact on all those fine folks and their families - I wish them all the best. OH
 
They look really good. Definitely a keeper considering CSC's news. Hopefully such a large order did some good for the employees. I'm also fine with the international orders shipping first.

Exactly, I know I will get mine and will cherish them. My heartfelt thanks to the employees of CSC for their efforts and best wishes for them and their families, may they all find employment quickly!
 
Yay again. Absolutely perfect. Amazing wood color and grain variation. Wha hooo. Thanks to all who made it happen. I know most of the real work happened outside of our view. Everyone is going to be very happy.
