2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

I like this idea, cheap to make too I would think. That would leave $ for special covers. I'd also be on board for a fixed blade.

Edit...........1500 posts!!!! Time for a GAW!
Here's a different idea for including a cap lifter secondary. This old Robeson equal end has a main spear blade and cap lifter secondary on the same spring. Nice and thin, very pocketable.

Congratulations on the milestone CC

Thanks to Spark, Charlie, Barry and everyone else involved in making this year's knife happen! I only have last year's knife but it has definitely fired up my appreciation for traditionals.

I'm loving all the ideas being tossed around! I can't wait to see what the guys come up with.

If nothing comes about for a peanut with punch 😉 at least I can enjoy that the eureka talk is gaining momentum, especially against a cap lifter inclusion. I for one most likely won't purchase one with a cap lifter as I have little to no use for one on a knife and can't justify buying one just because- I applaud those that will buy the knife regardless of design.

So my new fantasy for the forum knife- an Eureka Stockman with punch!! (Yes, I'm stuck on punches for my contribution to the forum knife!)

Thanks for the pic of the eureka stockman- that done up right by GEC would be beautiful!! Of the Eureka Stockman shown, it appears backwards to me, with the master blades on the thin end, but I like it!! Although my smaller Eureka has been stealing the Thunder from my GEC Eureka, I would love to see this fine model in another configuration!! Although I'm weird as I would also love to see the stockman with Wharncliffe main, short spey secondary and punch rounding it out. Maybe a custom some day after I win the lottery!!

The little guy is in my pocket today because of this thread:

This is my second favourite thread of the year each year because it's pure fantasy, we get to see where every bodies wants and needs lay, and it's an awesome way to revive older unique patterns (which is why I feel like cap lifters on a barlow isn't up to what this should be this year, not unique enough, but also realize that the barlows are hot right now). But hey, this is one area where fantasies can come true in life.

(The most anticipated thread for me is the Bowie of the year

My vote is just let Charlie pick a pattern----He has not produced a DUD yet.

He does this quite often. They're called SFOs. He's done harness jacks, barlows, and Washington jacks along with several others. This thread isn't about the next Campagna SFO. It's about the forum knife. I fail to see the point of a forum knife if input from the forum is discouraged.

There is no hurry right now, so I will start another thread when we get closer to choosing time. In the meantime, the discussion here is enjoyable, and gives me some inspiration. As we did last year, I will try to extract some ideas from your comments, fold neatly with knives any manufacturers are willing to offer, put the ideas into a budget (less than $100) baking pan, and hope it all rises to the top!!!

I have complete faith in Charlie but I am in complete agreement with this statement too.

Surely the whole point of this is that there should be input from the members themselves.

A forum is a coming together of individuals for discussion.

I too love this thread, it embodies the concept of the porch. :)

So very true! Part of the reason I love this thread is because it's not about the knives people have, but the knives people want. And half of the time when I read someone's post, I dig around for more information about the knife, been great for my education. I even ordered that Blade's Guide to Knives (even though I know there is controversy)

That being said, would love a half-congress to add to the pile, something to stand out from the crowd in like a GEC 61, maybe with plain bolsters and some popcorny stag... I think this would look pretty great with BladeForums written in the shield...

Charlie, I'm so glad you've agreed to run the BFC knife this year. You are the King Midas of Traditionals: whatever you touch turns to gold!

Two ideas for your consideration. A Cub Scout knife with clip or spear main blade and a cap lifter on one end, and a punch on the other. Or, how about a farmer Jack? With real jumping and a rooster comb on the smaller grafting blade!

It seems I remember that someone posted there would be a poll for last year's forum knife, yet I never did see it. I was surprised at the choice for the 2014 knife, since I don't recall much input for that style. In any event, if the choice really rests with just one person, then perhaps the 2015 knife should just be an SFO. If the goal is under $100.00, then the choice(s) are simple, a single blade high quality folder, or if one wants lots of bells and whistles, multi-bladed, etc, then less than a hundred dollars will buy you a lot of disappointment.

A special forum version of the GEC Bullnose is an idea, the pattern/machinery is already set up, street prices of way under $100.00, and to make it unique/ours, perhaps a different steel, and something a bit more exotic in the scale department...even the Farmer Lock would be an interesting choice; that's my suggestion.

There was a limited poll, and most of us were very happy just to see a forum knife last year when the odds were so heavily stacked against it - and very happy with the knife, at a very reasonable price.

I actually think that this format is probably a best case scenario. Have one person that is highly regarded and widely respected design the knife with input from the forum members. As has been mentioned, Charlie has not yet created a dud to the best of my knowledge. Threads like this will allow him to gauge the wants of the forum and get his creative juices flowing and he can create another masterpiece. It's a win/win for us and him. He gets some creative freedom and we end up with a great knife that we got to influence.
