2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Tony Bose referred to that Schrade as a modified Wharncliffe, before we found the Zulu name in the Schrade Catalog. The rest is Case History, although they changed it again, to a "tribal" spear, I guess to avoid offending anyone??

I'd be in for a sowbelly like Jake's also!! Sweet knife!

From the 1936 Schrade Cut Co catalog:

That's a good one with the Zulu spear.

I like this knife a lot!

I like it too, but... Jake's Sowbelly! That's one that would have me saving my pennies to buy two or three!

This pattern is my favorite single spring knife...and probably my favorite knife in general. It has a single spring with a catch bit. It was in the running for the 2012 BF traditional knife but didn't win the final vote. I would LOVE for GEC to reproduce this pattern EXACTLY like the original with one exception. I'd like the 2ndary blade to be a sheeps foot. The "sowbelly shield" is a must! It's hard to believe but no modern knife company has put the "sowbelly shield" or "barbie shield" on a sowbelly knife. And no modern knife company has made a 2-blade single spring sowbelly!

Very interesting Charlie  I've read that the short stabbing spear of the Zulus was called the Iklwa, the name being onomatopoeiac

I agree with whoever said a while back that it'd be better to have the nail nick on the other side of the sheepfoot. It'd sit lower and be on the correct side to open with your left thumb when holding the knife how you would if you were using the sheepfoot. I do like the idea of a large shadow pattern, in wood or micarta.

I still would like the punch/caplifter though, and look forward to the other offers.

Good to see the cap lifter being mentioned again. With a cap lifter, I'll need 4 or 5 of them. One for the shop (I've had a beer or two out there), one for the pocket, and a couple as gifts.

In my opinion a cap-lifter looks good on some traditional knives - the patterns which have included it in the past - on others it can look incongruous at best, an abomination at worst. We had a cap-lifter on the 2011 Forum Knife.

I'd agree. Especially since the caplifter has been done already, I'd rather see something else.

As much as I love the convenience of a screwdriver-caplifter, I do already own two knives with this option, not counting my Swiss Army Knife. It seems there is a bit of a caplifter backlash. I'm willing to move on to other traditional knives in the expectation that GEC will soon bless us again with another caplifter option, and in the interest of reaching a consensus on the 2015 knife.

Maybe there can be a punch drunk sheepnut next year.

You're right, there does seem to be some "caplifter backlash." I was just making a comment in this thread of what I thought a really neat knife would be, for me.

I knew better than to post in this thread, and I won't post up again, but I do like this from page #21:
This old Robeson equal end has a main spear blade and cap lifter secondary on the same spring. Nice and thin, very pocketable.

No "caplifter backlash" Brad  I think we all like the caplifter in general, and the subject has come up repeatedly throughout this thread, my comment wasn't aimed at you

So no interest in a beerbelly (sowbelly with cap lifter)?? ;) :p :D

right on Jack:thumbup: And I gotta' say, the "beerbelly" nickname is just sooooooo awesome!

It's my youngest daughter's 21st birthday today :) Here's a button cap-lifter she made for me when she was about 7 :grumpy: Darn cheek! :D

Here's a different idea for including a cap lifter secondary. This old Robeson equal end has a main spear blade and cap lifter secondary on the same spring. Nice and thin, very pocketable.

That is a sweet knife! Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have another caplifter forum knife!?!:o

I would love to see what that looks like. Hard to imagine. Has it ever been done?

What's the expression? "Your words to God's ear."

I'd be all over that!

Like a pig on slop!
