If grooves end up winning maybe Buck will eat some of the tooling costs and then add it as an option to the custom shop. I know that is probably not going to happen but I can dream! :D
I think that option would be a very popular addition to the custom shop!

Do we need another poll? Both the basic options are leading by a vast majority in grooved vs non grooved. Let the poll decide if we are having grooves and the rest of the question is already answered.

$115 +/-5% plus shipping definitely qualifies for way over, especially when I was specifically directed by the owner of the forum to keep the knife under $100. Just a dilemma I am trying to articulate.
Do what you need to do to meet this requirement--- poll or no poll. While I would like grooved bolsters, non-grooved bolsters are NOT a deal breaker for me... not even close. This has been a remarkable process. Thanks again!

I’m sticking with my desire for grooved bolsters, but the personal stress you are articulating with Spark’s direction, plus for those who legitimately will be hard-pressed to afford this knife, makes non-grooved bolsters the wiser answer. Perhaps a leather slip would be nice and practical. Choosing a pine box makes a lie out of wanting to save money. A cardboard box is unnecessary, because no one is going to flip their knife, right?

Stephen skblades skblades ,

While I genuinely think the grooved bolsters would make fantastic finishing touches to the awesome knife we have decided on, and think that ~$4 over is quite reasonable (and still less than recent BF knives), if this causes you discomfort or breaches an agreement, then I'm more than happy without grooves.

I know you and Buck seem to be bending over backwards for us and this creation, and the last thing I want to do is cause undue stress.

I know there's a small chance we could get under $100 (shipping separate) with the +/-5%, and think the vote should continue because grooved bolsters are worth fighting for. However if at any point you feel like we're crossing a line, I would have no hard feelings if you just shut this last poll down.

Just my personal opinion.

To make this as "clean" as possible, I think the best solution is to do a new poll with grooved or non-grooved bolsters. Cardboard box is the winner at this point.

Several points to consider here and I mean this with all due respect, especially to SK who has most certainly put a lot of time and effort into a project for which he will only receive an "atta boy" for all his work here. Point #1: As I recall from previous posts, communication with the BF owner was reported to be to keep the project around $100, which would certainly be in line with the $104 for grooved bolsters. Point #2: Many seem to be assuming that the +/-5% is an automatic price increase when it just as easily could be a decrease. Point #3: Shipping, while something that each purchaser must unquestionably pay, is technically not a part of the actual knife price and will vary depending upon the number of knives that one will actually order..

I think it was said that all non grooved options and the groves options would be added together so that it is just grooved vs non grooved. Not necessarily on the poll but just tallied together.

I'm not so sure. I think some of the non-grooved votes may be because there was an option for a leather pouch (currently 33). Take away the pouch option and some of those votes may well swing over to the grooved bolsters. Twice as many non-grooved options as opposed to grooved option, can't see just lumping them together as a true reading.

This seems clear that they will all be added together.
Well non grooved is crushing it right now. Grooved is going to have to make a comeback if it is to be chosen. I'm counting this as all grooved options vs all non grooved options.

Some people are saying that the recent forum knifes have been over $100. The last one, the barlow was somewhere in the $80 range.

You are correct, and I was wrong in my prior post. Last year's was $85, the 2016 was $115.

Sorry about that.

I just read that along the way in this thread and I remembered that one because I was more involved in the forum at that time. I was on the forum when they did the Drover but it was out of my awareness.

I'd much prefer grooved, no question.

If plain jane bolsters win this poll, even by just one vote, then frankly we don't need another poll. It's enough.

Otherwise we'll need a poll about groove depth.....;) And width...:D

Boxes wood or cardboard (we nearly all end up in one anyway:eek::D) don't have any relevance to me, leather slips, I have a few and seldom need them. If the limit is set by the owner at 100 USD then I suppose it has to be kept there, but it's very odd that this limit has not been raised to take cost inflation etc into accounto_O For me as an overseas buyer the extras are high shipping costs for one small knife and import tax at 25%, and this is 25% of the whole total including the cost of shipping not just the knife's price. So it's the knife that interests me not any boxes or suchlike and I reckon the grooves add to its beauty.

GROOVE ON!

Interesting, so two years ago it was 115 USD plus any postage costs. Isn't this more than than what's being currently asked for the grooved bolster option?

If that can pass 24 months ago, then the grooves should pass now. Just sayin'

Thanks, Will
