Guys and Gals, this has been a serious addiction for me. I'm going to feel withdrawals when the polls are done. Going to have to do something similar in the Buck Forums to get my fix! It has been incredibly fascinating to watch the progress of the knife and get to know everyone as much as you can through a process like this.

Your "help me design this knife" polls in the Buck Forum have always been fun to participate in, but this years Blade Forums Traditional polls have really taken it to a new level of fun. As a Knife Nut and Buck Fan it has been double fun - I do hope there will be more of this in the Buck Forum - can't get enough of carrying/using my Buck Smoke Jumper right now as it is - this special BF Buck 301 is going to be over the top. OH

I heard about some new law requiring online retailers to charge state tax on purchases? I hope this doesn't affect our 2018 forum knife.

this actually makes me a bit sad -- my vote was for pine and leather, I don't really care if the knife comes with grooves or not.

↑[/URL]This poll may not be the final poll, if things are too messy.

And that is the problem with this poll because the leather pouches are not an option with the grooved bolsters. As it now stands, it is not until you add in the leather pouches that the non grooved receives more votes; take away those votes and grooved is a clear winner. Furthermore, again as it now stands, those voting for the leather pouches will not even receive them. Here's hoping SK looks at this bigger picture because things certainly look "messy" to me.

Edit to say that for those really wanting a pouch (actually termed a slip), you can contact Buck and order one directly from them.

Well, there goes plausible deniability ;)

I don't know how the ruling will manifest itself in practical application, but I doubt anything will happen this year and certainly not in every state. Even when and if it does happen I can't see any one state going after businesses in every other state for each and every transaction, or how they would ever even know they happened. I imagine that the states will have to hound the purchasers in their own states to cough up the tax on all their online out of state transactions.

Bottom line is if the buyer is the one who has to pay the tax the forum knife should continue unabated. If the seller is truly going to have to collect taxes for every state (and local?) and then submit them to those states then that will probably be the end of endeavors like this one I think.

It is tough to tell how many people want leather pouch over grooves but w/o the leather pouch would take grooves over leather pouch. I would guess that the leather pouch group is heavier on the non-grooved regardless and would thus urge anyone who wants grooved to vote grooved you can get a pouch later for roughly the same cost.

Traditionally, grooved bolsters signified a premium knife. They give a knife a richness of detail. Plain is easy to find. Well done grooved or rattailed bolsters are timeless! Worth the cost I say!!

Not quite $6 a bolster to do that groove

Is it too late to see if they can do stepped bolsters ?
That’s something that you hardly ever see any more, the John Primble I had for a time was pretty cool

of course I know it is too late, but sure would be something to think about for next year ;)

Grooved bolsters aren't worth $23.00 (+/- 5%)
To you and others who agree. There are also those who feel that minus aesthetic considerations, not choosing grooved bolsters, is penny wise and pound foolish. Their “truth” is no less valid than yours.

That was a very recent Supreme Court decision. So, it will happen when the states get things set up to collect the tax from all retailers. It will level the playing field.
