I never have seen the pictures of grooved vs. non-grooved bolsters. Can someone point them out to me?
Grooves would have been an entire new hurdle. Since they do not currently put grooves on the the 301 we would have worked with them to define the grooves, deep, not deep, etc. Then after that was decided, the cost would have been figured. Here's the non grooved from the first post in the Dark or Light Elk Poll thread (with the dark being what was chosen):

And here's a photo of a Buck knife with grooves from earlier in this thread.

I'm not sure if we know for sure if that would have been the type of groove used since that's from an older version but thats the only example of a Buck knife with grooved bolsters that I've seen. I'm admittedly not that familiar with the brand, though.![]()

Charlie, this should show side by side comparison of the Schrade 301 with bolsters and a new 301 without. PrestonIf this knife doesn't have grooves, it will not separate itself from the standard 301. This really needs to have grooves for that reason. Otherwise it wont look or appear any different than the standard. Value will increase down the road with this feature. If this doesn't look any different or someone isn't familiar with how this knife became it will just disappear. But, with grooves the story will continue just like it does for all of the older knives that had features not found today. 10 years from now someone will google grooved bolster 301 with two blades. This knife will pop up. If it looks the same as every other 301 then it wont be as special.![]()
I'm actually more disappointed that we missed out on at least two more weeks of polls (groove width, groove depth) than I am about the grooves themselves!Grooves would have been an entire new hurdle. Since they do not currently put grooves on the the 301 we would have worked with them to define the grooves, deep, not deep, etc. Then after that was decided, the cost would have been figured.
Absolutely did not speak out of turn.Ahhh, *tips hat* Thank you for clarifying.(& apologies if I spoke out of turn)
Exactly. It's simple. Thanks for stating it so clearly.I suppose if grooved won, it wouldn't seem messy. But in my mind, it's as simple as can be. You want grooved, then vote grooved. You want smooth, then vote smooth. I don't get the confusion from everyone that it's "weighted" or unfair. No one that wants grooved, is going to vote for any one of the 4 options that are smooth. No one that wants smooth, is going to vote for any of the options that are grooved. Simple.
I'm glad you don't have to endure all that (for free) and can get on to the important stuff!Grooves would have been an entire new hurdle. Since they do not currently put grooves on the the 301 we would have worked with them to define the grooves, deep, not deep, etc. Then after that was decided, the cost would have been figured.

Guys and Gals, this has been a serious addiction for me. I'm going to feel withdrawals when the polls are done. Going to have to do something similar in the Buck Forums to get my fix! It has been incredibly fascinating to watch the progress of the knife and get to know everyone as much as you can through a process like this.
I think you might be the only one. (Of course, you could always run a poll to determine who will be sad that there will be no more polls vs. who'd be happy to never see another poll again.)![]()
