I will keep the knife with the rest of my collection so it won't need the box. My choice would be Non Grooved Bolsters, Cardboard Box, & Leather Pouch: $88 (+/- 5%). At $88 I might pick up a couple. I have to contend with the US/CAD exchange rate and the extra shipping costs.

If I was to switch it would be to grooved without the pine box.

This decision is the hardest one for me yet.:oops:

Does 'Grooved Bolsters' mean one or two lines? Rat-Tail?

I'm thinking (now - could change) the bolsters on theses knives are already kinda neat-looking, being that they are slanted.:cool:

The pine box does not seem to be getting much traction. Grooved or non grooved is most of the debate.

I voted for grooved bolsters. Before I made that decision, I Googled knives with grooved bolsters to inform my choice. That led to wanting grooved bolsters without hesitation. It adds a layer of build sophistication. It’s elegant and makes the knife stand out from the more “Plain Jane” version of the same knife.

As to cardboard or pine, the two options offered, I went with cardboard. There are enough interested parties here, where price is an issue. I decided it didn’t matter what material the knife was held in. I can come up with a sleeve, and don’t plan on selling this treasure.

The fact that $104 come close to the original goal, and that it will make the knife, ultimately more valuable, tells me Grooved Bolsters is the right decision.

The way this is shaking out, one could argue that the cards were stacked against plain bolsters via spitting the votes between leather slip and no leather slip. The Same option not being available to the grooved bolster crowd, stacks more votes in one camp vs splitting them between two minor differentiated options...just an observation on my part...

I buy 'em to use, not to look at. I have knives with plain bolsters and knives with grooved bolsters and the grooves don't make them cut any better. The only way it stays in the box is if it is so far from something I like that it can't earn a turn in the pocket. That has happened more than once on the forum knives.

SK acknowledged the potential for vote-splitting, and said that he'd do a runoff poll if things were close.

Also, I can hear you all now, "We need grooved vs non grooved first, or it will split the votes!" Yes I agree it will split the votes. If things are too close to call, we will do a narrow down and revote because this could get messy. I needed to do it this way so you can see the options and prices laid bare and how each option affects the final price.

I think grooved will pull 50 percent of the vote- how can anyone resist grooved bolsters? And they only cost $11.50 per groove..... that is a cheap groove.

I'm factoring in all votes. This is not an end all poll, as I figured it might not be when I wrote it all up. I want to see where the debate and votes go over the next few days and then we'll take the next route.

This is by far the toughest choice for me yet.

On one hand...

An American made 2 blade stockman with premium steel and elk handles for ~$81. Seems too good to be true.

On the other hand...

I was expecting the knife to be $100, so an extra few dollars to take it to the next level seems like a great deal.

It's either going to be the cheapest non-grooved, or cheapest grooved options for me. I'm sure the box and pouch will be amazing, but I just want the knife.

Thanks for the clarification, with a thread title of " the final say" can't blame a guy for asking such a question...

$7 for a leather slip is a good allocation of money, $25 for grooved bolsters is not IMO. In for 2 no matter the outcome though:thumbsup:
Buck shocked me with the price. Huge cost for the grooves. It's not only per knife, but the engineering fee as well.
