Thanks for the clarification, with a thread title of " the final say" can't blame a guy for asking such a question...
I gave myself an out in the body of my text on the first page, for I now know you all well enough to know I never poll correctly the first time. :p So we'll run this, and probably a final say 2.0 to get it narrowed. I debated heavily with going grooved vs non to start this, but kept talking myself out of it due to needing to show all options and let those sink it. I'll figure out how to get the right answer after this has run for a few days. :D:D

Engineering, extras, etc. even affects the lowly BF knife. Fine things in life ain’t free. Except fer the elite... price the guy on a budget out of the running. Don’t forget there’s not “free shipping”.

Here’s a pic I swiped from the web. Grooves bolsters are NOT the norm for this knife but they sure do dress it up nicely. They also differentiate it from pretty much all of the 301’s made these days.

You know, any way this comes out, the only real downside I see to this knife is that I won't be able to order a matching 303.

Then picture this with Elk Covers and grooved Bolsters. A virtually unique Buck for what comes very close to the original quote. Perhaps short term bad for those who are understandably focused on price, but in the long term, it will be great.

Buck shocked me with the price. Huge cost for the grooves. It's not only per knife, but the engineering fee as well.
Belay those mutinous mutterings Sailing Master.
I have ordered a container load of torches ,4 pallets of brand new Cyclone pitchforks and the hounds are being teased with non grooved bolsters dipped in fresh Rhinoceros blood.

Voted for non grooved, those grooves in the picture above seem rather unsubtle and it's a whole lot of money for the privilege.

I don't need more boxes about the place, more clutter. Therefore, a cardboard box is preferable to a wooden one that's not going to be used.

I like the grooved bolsters, sets it apart from the run of the mill Bucks and these are on slant bolsters which show it off even more. Some previous Forum knives have had grooved bolsters, even Rat-Tails and these offer a very worthwhile embellishment (see Forum Knife 13 and 14 e.g.)

I really DON'T see the need for any more polls frankly as Grooved is in a commanding lead and now I want to allocate the money for this Forum Knife (summer is usually expensive anyway)

A leather pouch would be a nice addition but I don't carry knives in them only when putting knives in bags for travel so it's not needed really.

Let's get it on!

I'm not sure that 73 vs 91 (present count) is that commanding at present to the extent of calling the match.

Another poll...
I'm sure that the pine box has an appeal to a segment of the collector group. I can relate; but, at the same time, I'd rather not deal with the larger box which will inevitably be of a different size than other such boxes (creating minor storage issues).
I don't have a preference on the bolsters or the leather pouch. That's not true, really; but the reality is that I'm buying the knife regardless...and the polling and endless discussion over options has worn me down.
With all respect to skblades skblades , while I (and, doubtless, many others) appreciate the lengths to which you are going to give us the knife we want, at almost every turn it becomes apparent that this will be the knife that some want...because after each poll the decisions are made in larger proportion by people that are making the best of the situation (the people that really wanted a different model, or 3 blades, or wood handles, etc). Save yourself some time and aggravation - take control of the final say. Choose the options you want, flip a coin, or go with the current poll results and call them good... there will be no more disappointment than if the poll and possible subsequent poll are run to completion.

I'm all by myself on this one. I voted non grooved with the pine box. I reckon the elk is going to be the star of the show and the plain bolsters will give it a clean look. Fancy grooves don't do anything for me.

What can I say, I think the box would be cool. I keep my main edc knives in a Buck tin on my dresser...

$81 (+/- 5%) Here's hoping for the "minus". I already have a million knives. Plus, I've made a point of flashing my bolsters, and no one has ever commented on them. Frown.

Looking forward to the final product!

best

I resist even voting as I am pretty content with whatever choice is made. I would skip the fancy box. It is just another thing to store and I have plenty of "things to store"; a lifetime's worth....
