Ain’t democracy great, elitism in the knife werld. Hush up and take it like a man. Knives... Get em while you can. BTW elites, there was a price limit placed by Spark for the benefit of the regular guy and guys in foreign countries. Price keeps inching up... looking like a familiar scenario? (In before the ban... my being banned that is.) The Stones: “ya can’t always get what ya wahaaant...”

IIRC, there has to be 250 for a minimum order. When this polling is completed, 250 of us have to put up the money. Stephen/SKBlades has to insure that as many as possible get at least a part of what they want. Communication is the only way to do that and the polls are a form of communication...as much fun/painful as it might be. Preston

99 to 99 at the moment. pretty close poll, probably the closest so far. How's it gonna turn out!

Buck shocked me with the price. Huge cost for the grooves. It's not only per knife, but the engineering fee as well.
They're charging ~$6000 for 250 knives for the grooved bolsters.

I don't think they add anything. Let the elk be the star and don't raise the price over 20%.

Probably out if option 1 isn't chosen , if the bolsters could be able to have a nice etched pattern on them would gladly pony up extra $23, but the simple lines do nothing for me, for the cost. Have no use for slip or small pine box. If pine box was say cigar box sized I'd be all for it tho.

Non grooved, cardboard box for me. I don’t see the added value of these particular grooved bolsters, I never use a slip, and don’t need a fancy box.

I want to keep this cheap so I can buy more than one to give away as gifts. If I have to pay extra for the things I don’t care about and won’t use, well, I might just not buy the knife at all.

Someone mentioned about thinking long term...notice SK mentioning an engineering fee - if our knives have grooved bolsters, they may be unique...for a while. Once Buck has built the tooling, they may offer grooves on other 301s, which could be a good thing.

But I haven't decided one way or the other. Going to sit back and watch this one develop.

I think the pine box has been buried as people seem to want a user/dress carry more than a display piece/safe queen I know I am in that camp a nice box is appreciated but it will just go into storage for me so I will vote for anything w/o it over those w/ given the cost. I want a slip I can get one anywhere though any slip that fits a 301 will work but it is nice to get one with the knife. I also enjoy the slip as it helps protect the knife in pocket from anything else that may be in there change, keys, pen, etc. I would probably want this slip even more with fancy grooved bolsters yet no option for grooved + slip.

Just for reference, this is a tight race if you combine all grooved vs non grooved. I will lean towards non grooved in order to keep the price lower than 100. I'm happy to see the $115 option is not gaining traction. $4 over 100 I believe is an acceptable threshold.

Well.. I don't usually have any interest in Forum/Club/LE/etc knives but I am interested in thisun because it a BUCK 301 !! I voted smooth/box but will buy what ever is chosen.. Its a BUCK !!!! It will be a user for me!! Bring it on..:D John

So if the results continue, would be have a grooved vs non-grooved final vote with the cardboard box and no slip a given?

What disturbs me is that at this late date, after all the polls and votes, some people are saying if they don't get what they want, they're out. Shame on you! If you have voted up to now, you should buy at least one even if it's not what you want. I'm in for two regardless, and maybe more if the price is kept down, and I haven't had ANY of the polls come out like I voted. It was said from the beginning, if you aren't gonna buy, don't vote.

I don't think that's fair at all.

Didn’t vote, not buyin, for the exact reason you state. It would be nice to see the price hit the target for once instead of going over. The 2013 knife was the last straw for me. Over and outta here...

I do. This is not a custom knife, it's a forum knife. There was nothing wrong with NOT voting, and then if it didn't turn out right for you, don't buy. But it was said from the beginning, don't vote if you're not going to buy. So in my mind, voting was a commitment to buy. Commitment is something rare in society nowadays, but much more common here in the Traditional subforum, so I expected better.

I'll leave it to the moderators but I believe the tone of your opinion regrettable. To berate others based on your opinion of the rules of the voting is unnecessary. I doubt many assumed that any vote was a final commitment to purchase regardless of the results of subsequent votes.

Voting in the early polls was not a commitment to buy - that is a ridiculous concept, because there were a lot of people that didn't vote for the options that were ultimately selected. The statement itself was direct - if you knew from the start that you weren't going to buy, please don't vote. At each stage, this was repeated - which makes sense - because after every poll there were likely to be people that didn't want the knife anymore due to the options selected. So, if one was interested in the forum knife and voted, but would not purchase a 301; then that person would have stopped voting when that decision was made. Somebody that was set on a 3 blade, and would not accept 2, would have stopped voting after that poll was finalized. If somebody was not willing to accept elk covers, he would have been expected to stop participating in the polls after he decided he was no longer interested.

*edited to add*
A lot of people are referencing the "slip". Isn't the Buck leather pouch a belt carry option, rather than a pocket slip? Or does it depend on the knife? (I've never actually seen a Buck slip - which in no means that they don't exist)
