Wow, step away from the computer a minute and ten pages already!
There were 500 2017 BF knives made.
This year's pattern, if one happens, will be from GEC and will be a pattern they are currently (somewhat) producing due to manufacturing costs associated with small orders.
I don't know what or if this will happen this year, but I would guess 'probably' and that CC already has some plan in mind and may have already discussed options with Bill Howard.
DON'T QUOTE ME ON THIS. NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE, especially w/ GEC!![]()
Are both Buck and Case unwilling to look at a 500 knife special order due to their manufacturing constraints?

Barry, thanks for the response and thanks for doing so much work in regards to the forum knives.
I’m really curious to see what comes of this. Although I did make some other suggestions, I’m totally happy with another GEC forum knife.
Since the current production schedule goes until September, it makes me wonder if there’s another new pattern in development for the end of the year? I would be happy with a special edition Gunstock, but a brand new pattern would really be great. Another PPP etch possibly?!
I think you attached a picture by mistake, or am I missing something?
From the production numbers I've seen, our forum knife orders are usually larger than their normal production runs.
I have seen several 500 piece sfo runs from case in the past couple years. I dont know if that was per pattern offered in given configuration or all inclusive, tho. Either way, 500 is probably their minimum number.
What is holding this up (and ultimately limits your choices to whatever the man with the money likes to see associated with him/his brand) is the 'financial guarantee' part. There are 3 people involved out of all of you here who actually have the financial cajones to do this. They are going to deal with who they deal with and the ultimate 'decision' will more or less reflect their taste taken from the suggestions of the buyers. Since S!K (and many custom makers as well) has kindly shown us the benifits of having customers pay for things that dont exist, whomever is paying for these has the say in it that matters most. I'd be interested to hear from one of those parties whether or not it might be too late to start this along or if it has already been started.
Hey guys, I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes by going out and doing some research but I have heard back from Buck. They are willing to do a knife for us if the board and Spark is ok with it.
-Buck is willing to do either a 301 or 303 stockman pattern in brass or nickel silver.
-Handle material would be up to us. Could be micarta, ironwood, bone, stag, etc.
-Blade steel could be S30V, S3gVN, CPM-154, CPM20CV, or their 420HC
-Hollow or Flat grind
-Nail nick or the long pull groove
-Blade stamp should be able to be the dots and/or the Forum Logo on the blade or shield.
Price would ultimately depend on those options selected, but they would try to keep it around what the price has been in previous years. The board member with the relationship with Buck should be along soon to chime in as well.

This is awesome and exciting, and honestly, I feel better about the idea of Buck doing this because, as nice as GEC knives are, they don't really seem to be responsive to anyone who isn't a dealer. I'm already kinda moved that Buck is willing and eager to interface like this.
I vote 301, brass, ironwood, S35VN or CPM-154, flat grind, nail nick. I really hope we do this instead of a 1095 knife from GEC. I'm also open to 20CV, I just don't want S30V or 420HC.

Super into all of this. Though I’d be voting for micarta covers, as it would make it pretty unique for a traditional Buck. I love Buck knives.
